Wondering if I should be concerned about Hurricane Matthew - been planning this trip for SO long with my teen/adult kids. Don't mind rain and wind but does anyone think that Orlando will be evacuated or the parks shut down??

Don't know if I should be concerned or do anything other than just monitor flight statuses and watch the news! :-/

It's looking pretty sketchy unfortunately :( look into your cancellation policy, you really may need to use it. Sorry it does suck

You should probably cancel today. Sorry that's not the news you probably want to hear.

I agree. We have full rain gear (think Alaskan fisherman lol). We were in the parks last Saturday evening (10/1) when they got something like 4 inches of rain in 2 hours. There were areas IN THE PARK (Islands of Adventure) that had ankle deep water at 7pm. The drains were not clogged. I could see the water draining furiously but it was just too much water.

There is nothing accurate about tracking storms. Who knows, Matthew could make a sudden turn straight back out to sea. I hope it does. But at its current strength, if Central Florida even gets a glancing blow, the authorities are preparing for flooding and power outages. You need to make your own decision.

Call your hotel and airline. They likely will waive cancellation/change/rebooking fees. In situations like this they will most definitely work with you. The last thing a hotel wants is to take care of you when the power goes out. Otherwise check your credit cards to see if you have trip insurance.

Here now, there is a link on sponsor's website as to cancellation policies

It is possible your Thursday night flight may get cancelled. Many airlines are already doing so.

Thanks everyone - Just found out my flights are cancelled... right after I checked in :-( I've looked so forward to this and the RIP Tour for HHN... 3 of my 4 kids were going and it just happened that 2 colleges and a high school had fall breaks that overlapped..... think I'll go cry now!

Sorry to hear that.

We were lucky to be there last weekend and did a RIP tour so I definitely feel for you. It's so cliche but remember that you and your family's safety is the most important thing. Just google news stories about Orlando residents clearing out grocery stores and gas stations running out of gas. Cancellation of a long planned trip is a huge bummer but it beats being in a hotel room without power or in a car or taxi on a flooded street or whatever else Florida residents are facing. Hopefully the storm bounces off the Florida east coast and heads back out to sea.

I just wanted to say how very sorry I am about your trip. After so much planning that really does suck. I hope you get your money back and get to plan a different time, you wouldnt want to get there and have your family in danger. :(

Sorry thay your trip is a no go. That is the pits. Hope you and your kids can make the best of it together at home.

Just curious what airline you were booked on? We're supposed to fly out Friday and land in Orlando at 11am. I'm sure we'll get cancelled, but no word yet from SWA.

So sorry to hear about your trip!
Is there no way to just delay a day or two?

Again, so sorry. I know it sucks. If you were staying onsite Loews has a wonderful weather cancellation policy.

Hi! We were flying Allegiant into Orlando/Sanford. That airport was closing this morning at 10am for all domestic flight and tonight for international. Checked and MCO is closing at 8pm tonight.

Have to say though, Universal and my ground transportation company (had booked us a limo for the ride) were amazing with the refunds - no questions at all or hard time. Now trying to get through to Allegiant to cancel but I get a recording that they're experience high call volume and to call back.

Thanks.... and yeah... spent hours getting the dates that all of my kids could make it.. and there were only two nights doing the RIP Tour, one of which was sold out so looks like another year before we get to reschedule this particular vacation. Me and two of my kids did HHN last year as well as three years ago and absolutely LOVED it. Last year we noticed people walking around in the tour groups so looked into it and decided that's what we wanted to do. My 21 yr old son was going to get to go this time as well.

At least we're all safe and I'll be getting the full $7000 back ($5000 for the Universal HHN package, $2000 airfare). Can't help being disappointed though... had my little countdown app going for over a year :-(

Thanks to everyone for replying!!

Ugh! Hate it for you! From what I see you're calm and understanding though. I work in the industry and deal with lots of angry people in these situations.

Hopefully you can out that money to good use this fall/winter and have next year to look forward to.

Check your flight, you're sure to be cancelled. That's right in the middle of the winds.

What a huge bummer. I would be very sad as well. I see now that Universal and Disney are going to be closed tomorrow.
