The temperature will probably be in the 60's when we depart PHL this coming Sat. We'll leave home around 9am for a 12:45 flight, with an hour drive to the airport. Our plane lands at 3:15 and temps in Orlando are forecast for the mid-90's. I would like to change out of the long pants/capri pants in to shorts before boarding DME. Is there time to change when we arrive at MCO?

No problem. You can take as long as you want from the time your plane lands until you show up for ME service.

Greetings from an Albright College alumnus.

DME doesn't run on any sort of time table. They know when you're landing and where you're going, but you are not assigned to an exact bus at an exact time. You will be accommodated whenever you check in at the DME Welcome Center (I wouldn't say the same if you were arriving at midnight or some late time like that). So in other words, you can't possibly be late for your DME bus. You won't be holding anyone up, no one will be waiting for you, etc. Relax and do whatever you want to do.

When we used DME last May, we must have made three stops between the plane and DME. The kids needed the bathroom, then a little later my wife needed to stop in a bathroom to fix her contact lenses, and after that my MIL wanted to look in some of the shops because she didn't think she'd have enough shopping opportunities at Disney World.

The other thing to consider is, do you really need long pants for the VERY few minutes you'll be outside in mid-60s degree weather??? From the house to the car will be very fast. Put the heat on in the car if necessary. From the car to the airport, maybe a coupla minutes waiting for a shuttle in the parking lot. Think warm thoughts!!! And have a great time!

:thanks:

I'm still debating our attire. DD and I can wear capri length pants, DH has nearly knee length shorts and will probably be okay in those rather than khakis. I've heard that the plane's cabin can be cool, so I'm concerned about comfort in the air as well as outdoors.

 Eric- I'm about 2 miles from Albright's campus, in Reading.

If I fly anytime from May-Oct, I fly in either capris or shorts, with a sweatshirt since the plane can get chilly. If it's really chilly here, in the NE, when I leave, I fly in jeans, but that's not too often in the above listed months. When I flew last Nov (late) I flew in jeans, and thought I was going to die when I landed in Orlando!!! I couldn't wait to get to the resort so I could change...the humidity was brutal for that time of year.

If you choose to fly in long pants, then just take a pair of shorts with you in the carryon bag, head to the restroom when you deplane and change. I've done that before. I always use the restroom before heading to DME in any case.

I've left Providence in January in 15 degree temperature wearing shorts. I always find planes to be hot and stuffy plus you'll only be outside a couple of minutes.

I roam arround in Disney in March in the 60's in shorts and come home to the NE in the 20 and 30 (NH )in shorts no problem. Turn on the heat in the car if you are cold. Have fun!!!

I always find airplanes to be freezing. I normally bring extra socks with me! I leave Monday from PHL and I plan on wearing a knee length skirt. It is very comfortable and this seems to be in between capris and shorts.

Anytime I go (fly out of Syracuse), with the exception of summer when I just wear shorts, I will wear a pair of mesh shorts under a pair of wind pants. I find them very comfortable to travel in. If I get too hot, its very easy to just take them off, and vice versa. They fit easily into a carry-on as well if you need to store them.

OK, not to panic or scare anyone, but I would think twice about wearing shorts on a plane.

We watched a show a few years ago about how to best survive a plane crash. They recommended not wearing short, sandals, etc... The best thing you can possibly wear on a plane is jeans, tennis shoes and long sleeve cotton shirt. Try to avoid man-made materials as in a fire they can melt to you skin and cause severe burns.

I know that many plane crashes are catastrophic, but some are not and think about what might make it easier on you if you had to jump out of the plane using the inflatable emergency sides.

I know that Orlando is hot when you arrive, but in the event of an emergency I can tell you I would rather be wearing long cotton pants and sneakers than shorts, tank top & sandals.

Just something to think about and hopefully I'm not scaring anyone or being negative. But I never let my family travel on a plane in shorts & sandals.

We also fly from the Northeast in cooler weather and wear jeans or khakis on the plane. We wear sneakers, a short sleeve top, and a light jacket or sweater. We bring a pair of shorts in our carry-on that matches our shirts. Once we land, we quickly take turns going into the first restroom we see after deplaning and put on our shorts. The pants and sweater go back into the carry-on. This takes just a few minutes and then we take the tram over to where the baggage claim, DME, and other transportation options are. If we are in the earlier group deplaning, we sometimes are in our shorts and on our way before the remaining people are off the plane! This routine has worked very well over our many trips.

I don't own them my self but ds9 and ds6 have long pants that the bottom parts unzip off to become shorts. They perfect even in winter months and we don't have to stop in a restroom to do it.
All this talk about flying from PHL to MCO makes me want to go again. Too bad I'll have to wait til Sept.! :rolleyes1

I've done this myself twice and I LOVE it!!! It's SOOOO exciting after take-off to unzip my pants
... um, that is ... :rolleyes1 unzip the bottom half of each leg from my pants to change them into shorts. READY!!!

Of course, the downside to this is zipping the long pants back onto the "shorts" on the flight back north. Talk about a bummer. :sad2:

Well, usually that's the case, but not for me last month. We flew home from Tampa on May 21, into Logan. I wore jeans because I knew it wasn't all that warm back home. So did my dd. We also had long sleeved shirts on. My dh had had to park in one of the waaaaay out there Economy Lots since they got to Logan on a Tuesday at 3:00 and central parking was full. So, dd and I wait to get the bags, while he takes the shuttle to the lot, and then drives around to pick us up. Well......there we stood, my 12 y/o dd and I, waiting at the 'live pickup' area at Logan. We waited for 25 minutes, it was about 52 degrees and windy. I only got stressed when the state cop came up to me and said..."Hey, where's that poor kid's jacket??" I wanted to die!!! I told him it was in the checked luggage. He looked down and said.."Some reason you can't get to it now??" What a doofus I felt like...I hadn't thought of that. Finally, 10 minutes later dh drove up...state cop just waving goodby to us!!!
Sometimes you're stuck out there longer than you expect...much to my chagrin.

My approach is to "dress for your destination". I've flown out of the oppulent Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre International Airport (enough hyphens and slashes for ya there ?) in shorts and sandals or sneakers after trudging through a snow covered parking lot in 20 degree March temps. Suck it up, boy! Half the fun is leaving Pa in horrible weather and stepping off the plane at MCO to that blast of hot, humid air.
