Hi! Starting to plan our first WDW trip and feeling a little overwhelmed — excited to learn from everyone here! Have a lot of milestones bdays to celebrate.

Welcome! This place is a great planning resource. I can see how it can also get overwhelming for a first timer though.

Do you have specific questions? Or perhaps a very high level plan already?

I usually go about planning in this order:

  • Pick travel dates
  • Pick hotel based on sleeping arrangement needs, cost, discounts, and preference
  • Decide on number of park days
  • Park hopper or not?
  • Which park on which day?
  • Restaurants we want to try?
  • Lighting lane or not?
  • Then the details: what will the days look like? Are we rope dropping or not? Any special ticket events or extras? How much time to spend in the park vs hotel/pool? Which lightning lanes to prioritize?
For some people, there is also the question of whether to get the dining plan. We never do anymore. Also, are you staying on or off property?

When planning park days try to stick with 3,2,1. Pick 3 must do rides, 2 shows/entertainment, and 1 dining/food. This will help from feeling too overwhelmed.
