Since we're on the opposite side of the country its starting to look like we'll be paying about as much in flights as we will be for the week vacation!

We're looking into the end of August and the prices I see are around $420 :sad1:

Has anyone every flown from Seattle and any hope of cheaper flights?

Just wait they should go lower. I bought ours a couple weeks ago from Seattle to MCO end of August for $240 round trip. Two days later they were $220 round trip but not the exact flights I was hoping for so I'm okay with the change. (Yes, I realize the flight times will probably change this far out but I'm trying to be happy about the fact that I paid $20 extra per person ;) )

Keep looking (especially kayak.com) and some better rates should turn up.

11/30 we took SW out to Orlando, and it was 421.20 for the 3 tickets (total).

12/17 we took Alaska back. Hubby flew on miles (so $5 fee), and for the other two tickets it was 429.40.

The SW price did end up going down several months after I booked it. Alaska never did, just went up and up and up!

thanks! If I can get our tickets for under 1K I'll be SUPER thrilled!

What's the best strategy? Just check daily on kayak (is that the best site?) and book immediately when I see them? When do you think the best prices will come out? I know August is still 7 months away.

thanks, we're a little clueless! :confused3

I like the airlines that give you credit when the price goes down (if it goes down). So, Southwest, Alaska, Jet Blue... I believe I booked our flights in June. The prices were decent to me, though my wallet squeaked a bit, LOL. But I have a background of flying in the very early 80s and it was FAR more expensive then that it is now...so I know it could be WAY worse, and try to be realistic (do we even pay for the fuel when we pay $100 per person each way? that sort of thing). Anyway, I saw prices that I could deal with on flights I figured I would be comfy on, and booked. And then I checked obsessively to see if the prices went down.

That's my advice. Kayak.com is good, but it doesn't include Southwest. Gotta check SW on their own.

Oh, and if you want to experience the BEST airline (for coach, at least, domestically), and don't mind baggage fees, a weird mileage plan, and no credit if the price goes down, check out Virgin America. I'm going to try to go with them next time, unless we have enough miles to fly all of us on something else, because VA is just SO awesome. :)

We only fly Alaska to MCO, can't beat the nonstop (and I secretly love the redeye). If you are looking for coach seats, they are usually more expensive the further out you book. If you wait until the two month window the weekdays (m-w) will usually fall to $150-$250 range (one way) but weekends seem to always stay above $250-$400 (one way).

If you're looking for the cheapest I would follow what others have said and check out SW and kayak. To me, the layover, extra time, and switching planes is not worth the savings or headache.

I bought our tickets a few weeks ago, we leave in less than two weeks. So I bought them about a month early, and I got 4 tickets from SEA to MCO for under $950 on Delta, could have saved another $20 so $5 each on another airline, but since most of us got miles from Delta. Our favorite is JetBlue but did not want it to be a 15 hour flight which ever one was from them. The price did go down the next day and actually offered better connections, I never realized that I could have changed it since it was within the 24 hour frame, but it didnt make that much difference and we are happy.

just to update we just booked our tickets, we're paying $260 a ticket (including all taxes and fees) so $1040 total!!!:banana::banana:

Which airline are you flying and when did you buy them?? That's a great price! We aren't going until next year but trying to get a feel of when to start buying our tickets (we will have to buy 5 tickets!!)

Thanks
