Flying from LAX to MCO

So, we're looking at flying from LAX to MCO (direct) this October and I'm not sure what a good price is and was hoping that someone may have better knowledge about this than myself?

The cheapest direct flight I can get for 2 Adults, with x1 checked baggage each and seat selection, is $690 with Virgin America/Alaska Airlines.

Is this an average rate, or should I hold out for something cheaper?

Seems high to me, but I always fly Southwest. Southwest hasn't released their dates for October yet but there is a direct flight in August for $176pp. Unless of, course, if that $690 is round trip. Then I would say it was good.

I'd look for a non-stop flight on that route. I know Delta has them at least 3 times a day.

As far as price goes, you can easily follow price trends by going to www.kayak.com and setting up a daily alert for your dates. After watching that for a while you'll get a better feel for what is a good price.

If for both one way it's ok-ish. I might have to book a $337 flight mco-sea after princess. Sometimes those one way flights are high. If it's round trip and for both that's good IMO.

Yes, we've flown southwest internally too. May hold out for their rates to be released for October then.

That's a decent price IMO. DH traveled for work a ton for 7 years and we got a good idea of flight prices and I'd be cool with that. $170ish pp each way and that's including a bag each? A bag is $25 pp each way so then it's really $145ish?

I know from Seattle I'd be cool with that.

Though I'll admit I almost never book that early.

That said, Alaska has a price guarantee that's somewhat close to southwest's deal where if it goes down they put the difference in your "wallet". Same "use by" date of a year after original booking and you don't have to rebook. There's a form on their site for it.

Booking way out can be a gamble. Sometimes it goes down, some time it goes up.

OK, so break it down...
$690 total means $345pp.
1 checked bag each is $50 RT, so your cost is $295 RT.

That might be a little high (not much different than charmed59 found), I think you did fine.

$626.80 means $313.40pp.
Subtract bags and you're at $263.40.

That's REAL close to charmed59. I'd be satisfied paying that.

True, it is a gamble booking so far in advance. The need to secure the flights is due to meeting my parents at the airport and our flight times need to match as close as possible. It's always the worry that we'll wait for a better rate and then not be able to tie our flight times together because the flight sold out!

I personally like booking flights out early. One thing to know if you do that though is airlines can change schedules. You should check your times every week or two until about two months out, then every week until a month out, then almost daily.
