DH has been investigating prices for flights. We've always flown West Jet out of TO. Now he says that we can save about $1000 by flying out of Buffalo. There is a stopover in Atlanta and on the way home there are no stops. Anyone else flew from Buffalo?

Love flying from BUF, it should be the same driving time for either airport for you ( YYZ or BUF.) Customs is at the Boarder, super easy! And the airport is quite small, easy to get around. Parking in on site and most of the cars you will see are Canadian, lol.

I have flown from BUF 4 times and it has been great, once has been solo and will do it solo again in Decemeber, also check out Jetblue, they stop over at JFK (and now BOS, avoid those flights, adds an hour to flight.) Jetblue has leather seats and tv units at every seat.

Sign up for Southwest's Ding program using BUF as your home airport.

Almost EVERYONE from Ontario here. It's the money saving "secret". I've flown with Southwest, United and American Airlines from Buffalo to different US destinations.

If you're looking for non-stop flights to Orlando, Southwest I think is the only airline that can help you there.

What are your dates? If Southwest has not opened up their schedule that far yet then wait. We always fly SW.

In Dec. I paid $486 US for 5 flights and in May I paid $865 for 8 flights.

I don't think to many people fly out of TO anymore.

SW Convert here too!

I live 10 mins from the Airport and the convenience is great but after what AC did to me this March! I have a last flight in September since I have a $400.00 credit to use up and from then on it..........Flying out of Buffalo! :thumbsup2

I even spent my flight from Toronto to Newark explaining to the AC Hostess just how inexpensive and easy it is to fly out of Buffalo!

Our family flies from Buffalo as well using Southwest! As for stopovers, when we went in March of this year on our return flight we stopped in Norfolk, VA, then Baltimore then Buffalo. My butt was really sore from sitting the whole flight, due to me having the baby on my lap. Each segment was completely full as well.
If I had my choice again, and I had to do a stopover, I would only do one. It's not really that bad, unless you have to get off the plane at the stopover and go to another gate. However, if that happens you board before the people waiting at that airport.
Go for it, it's way cheaper to fly from Buffalo and easy to navigate!

Just adding to the above posts...Southwest is awesome! You can't even begin to compare the prices to anything out of Toronto, or even Hamilton. Remember when looking online at the various airline websites...anything in Canada, the price you see my look attractive, but keep clicking through and once they add all the taxes, security and airport fees, Pearson is the most expensive airport in the WORLD to fly out of now! If you look at SW, Jetblue etc and click through, the taxes and fees are nothing in comparison (about $10-$20 on a one way ticket or so).

I'm from the same hometown, I'm pretty sure (polka anyone?) and we drive to Buffalo this way...401 to 6, south to Hamilton, then 403 to QEW, cross at Fort Erie (much faster and less busy crossing) then 190 east(south?) to I90 east. It takes us about 2 hrs, but I like to leave 2 1/2 to 3 just in case there is something going on at the border (oh, and to shop in the big beautiful duty free store). We also stay overnight sometimes too if our flight is really early in the morning, go down the night before and stay near Galleria mall, go shopping and have a nice relaxing dinner, then you are a 10 minute drive to the airport in the morning. You'll be shocked at how tiny, simple and straitforward the Buffalo airport is compared to Pearson!

It would take an awful lot to get me to fly out of Toronto again!!

Ditto everyone else's reply & one thing to add -

My Orlando flight this spring - we had an unscheduled fuelling stop in Pittsburgh but it barely made a dent in our arrival time. Our return flight was 15 min. early. As they said "We Love you, you love us, 'cuz we're faster than the bus!"

My DD is still singing that line. :bitelip:

we had a great experience with Southwest a few years ago. This aug. we are flying Air Tran out of Buffalo. Air Tran has 1 non stop that flys out on Saturdays.

I just got back form a weekend business trip to daytona, we flew out of buffalo airport for the first time, it was excellent-we stayed overnight at the Clarion hotel- $70 and change for the room you leave your car there for free they have a free airoprt shuttle van (and there's a Tim Hortons across the street! for those timmy withdrawls when you return.)
We flew with Southwest-great flight excellent service -ahead of schedule both legs of the trip- check in at Buf airport is very quick and easy- seems a whole lot better than pearson, and the best thing is since it is a domestic flight you don't have to stand in a long line at customs- only need to worry about the border on the way back, but since you will most likely staying at least a week, there should be no hassles at the border.

That was my first experience at Buf airport and I was impressed and will definatley give it top consideration for any trips I make!

Yes, flying out of Buffalo is awesome. I've done SW non-stop flights a couple of times, and once I did AirTran with one stopover in Atlanta. For the flight down, the layover was only 45 minutes ... pretty much got off one plane, went to the bathroom and then boarded the second leg of the flight. Coming home was another story because they changed the flight times, and then we got severely delayed in Atlanta. It ended up being an entire day of travel for us which was not fun. Had it been on the flight down, I would have been really ticked

And the parking and airport is incredibly easy to get around.
