Flying Fish - side dishes

I just booked an ADR at the Flying Fish in Oct for me and my husband. We've never eaten here, but are staying at the Boardwalk Inn, so we thought this looked like a great choice for dinner on the night we arrive at Disney.

One idea we had was to skip the appetizer course, each order an entree and then order one veggie and one "starch" side to share. Of course I also want to make sure I save room for dessert - we would probably order one and share it.

The food looks amazing - and very rich. How large are the side dish portions? Do you think that will be too much food for two people??

I'm sure I'll order a fish dish (possibly the potato wrapped snapper) and my husband will most likely try the steak (it seems to get a lot of great reviews).

Appreciate any info Flying Fish fans can share! Thanks.

The side dishes are meant to be shared. I consider the entrees to be large, so an entrée, half of a veggie and half of a starch would be a filling meal for me. That being said, I cannot answer whether it would be too much food for you or not enough. You probably can get an idea by seeing what other diners are ordering or asking your server. Many of the Flying Fish servers have been there for years and are the very definition of professional and helpful. Their suggestions usually are spot on.

I hope you will enjoy the Flying Fish. It's one of my favorites for the food and the service.

Thanks for the info - I, too, thought the entrees looked rather generous in photos - hadn't seen any pictures of the sides, but if they are meant to be shared, then that will be a lot of food. Of course, we will be eating a light breakfast that we'll bring on the plane, getting a sandwich for lunch at the Earl of Sandwich and hopefully spend the afternoon swimming in the pool (if the weather is nice). By 7 pm we might be very hungry! But I'm going to take your advice and ask the server - maybe we'll just get one side. Or dessert to go?

So glad to hear that you enjoy the Flying Fish. We are excited to finally try it.

Sides are meant to be shared and they are HUGE.
Wow - thanks for letting me know. I really want to enjoy this meal and not leave feeling stuffed - though perhaps the cold left over Truffle Mac & Cheese would make a tasty breakfast the next morning??? Just kidding. Yet knowing my husband, he'll either force himself to eat every bite, or insist we take the leftovers with us and put them in our room fridge (to be thrown away later in the week, I'm sure).
