The grandparents will keep our son a couple of nights so that DH and I can go on a "date." We're staying at YC, so I thought a restaurant in the area would be nice. Which one do you think is yummiest?

I've been to both a few times. Neither are my favorites, but I'm trying them again in a few weeks to reevaluate them.

But I'm a seafood person, so Flying Fish's menu appeals to me much more overall. Plus the restaurant seems to get better feedback on the boards (in particular the scallops, snapper, and strip steak are supposed to be amazing). I feel Yachtsman is rather ordinary, but obviously it's the place to go if you simply want large portions of meat and potatoes.

Flying Fish is better than Yachtsman but since it's a date night, you should look at the Swan/Dolphin restaurants. They have better food and a more adult atmosphere. I would rank bluezoo, Il Mulino and Shulas all above Disney's best.

I would agree with this 100%. Also gp to Resturant.com and you can get excellent deals on gift certificats. Right now it is only 50% with the code "fresh". However as the weeks of the month go by you will be able to get 80% off. We have used these many times and are always pleased.

Have a wonderful trip and enjoy your date night. :goodvibes

Thanks for the recommendations! DH and I are on the DDP, so that's why we were looking at Yachtsman or another Disney restaurant where we can use the dining credits....lol...we're just being cheap. ;)

However, I'm glad to hear the good reviews on these other restaurants, b/c we were planning on sending the grandparents to Schula's on a suprise date night. And, the advice for restaurant.com is great. I just happen to have two $25 gift certificates to Restaurant.com. So, I'll see if I can use them in Orlando for anything...hadn't though of that! Always great ideas on the Dis!! :goodvibes

We love Yachtsman. Not that FF isn't a good place either. They really are both great meals. You may want to read the dining reviews here when trying to decide. :disrocks:

The real tie-breaker might be the menu's at each place and your own personal likes. restaurant menus

The Fish over Yachtsman. I found them to be a bit pedestrian for the hype. For meat I would go to Shula's. I would also pick Blue Zoo over The Fish. The Fish is still great but Blue Zoo is better and quieter. However if you are on the dining plan or like the Boardwalk nighttime atmosphere - Fish it is!

Over Christmas in 2010, I had dinner at both places. Yachtsman was so bad, Disney reimbursed my meal to me. (Not to mention I had to wait 45 min past my ADR time).

Flying Fish was the best meal of the trip.

Ym was our favorite meal last year, amazing steaks and upscale atmosphere.

I've eaten at both - a few times - and I've never had a problem at either.... However, if I had to choose one. it would be the "Fish".

It all depends on what you like. If you're not a fan of steak, I wouldn't recommend Yachtsman. The last time we went the steak was very good, but everything else on the menu was not. We were extremely disappointed and I think it went down as our least favorite dinner for the trip.

Wow, this was a hard poll, Yachtsman was so good we ate there twice in 14 days because DH loved the steak. I would have eaten at Flying Fish twice because I loved every course in the meal and would eat seafood everyday if given the choice.

My impression, too, is that FF is more of a high-energy restaurant while Yachtsman is quieter, maybe a more 'romantic' feel. Again, depends on your personal preferences. Both are 2 TS credits.
