We are only doing a couple of upscale restaurants on our mini WDW this time, then off to Universal. I have PS for the Flying Fish, but am rethinnking maybe Jiko's. That's all anyone seems to be talking about these days. The crew will be Me, DH, DD 14, & DS 12. DH is a prime rib kind of a guy. I thought that since our budget will only allow a couple of dinners, I hated to take a chance on Jiko's. Some people have reported that they don't like it. Whereas, no one seems to dislike the Flying Fish. I've stayed at the AKL and just love it!! DH hasn't stayed there and I would like him to see it! DKids will eat anything from the "children's" menu. I will eat anything......but can't stomach garlic and heavy spices. What do you think?

Thanks!

I've never been to Jiko. I have eaten at the Flying Fish three times and it is among my favorite restaurants at WDW. I especially enjoyed the potato encrusted snapper and the crab cake appetizer (and I am not a crab cake fan!).

I enjoy both but, there are more choices Jiko's menu.
The atmosphere is really nice at Jiko as well. After dinner you can wander outside and see the animals.
The filet with macroni and cheese is my favorite! It melts in your mouth.

Well--no Prime Rib at either place.

FF menu is a little more "basic" I suppose, but of the 2 my choice would be Jiko. They have an excellent tenderloin along with a nice pork entree--eihter of which might do for you DH.
And as you note, Jiko is at the AK, which adds "location" to the mix--.
Their wine list and beer offerings are better as well, if that makes any difference

We love them both and that is one tough choice you have to make.

Flying Fish is very good..we order the same thing every time though. I have the scallops and hubby has the steak. Both are outstanding..wait..last time hubby did have that fish that comes out with the head on..it was also outstanding.

Anyway..Jiko...totally oustanding as well..and we just keep trying new things on the menu. There doesn't seem to be a loser in the bunch. Spices aren't "heavy" so that shouldn't really be a concern. It would be a treat for you hubby to see, the animals, the lobby (as you already know it is like a small art museum).

Either way..you can't lose at either restaurant you chose.

Never been to FF -- but hated Jiko. Food was boring, atmosphere dark and depressing, service poor and WAY over priced.

I've eaten at both, and I agree Flying Fish is the more "basic" of the two. Less spices and less exotic food. Jiko is unbelieveable though, and the Filet with Mac and Cheese is awesome. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Flying Fish every time, I just like the atmosphere better. The food quality between the two is a toss up, and with your husband likes/dislikes and your adversion to spices, Flying Fish probably would be a better bet.

I would pick Jiko. Jiko is one of our favorite places to eat at WDW. I had there beef tenderloin w/ macaroni & cheese last year and it was great. We always start our dinners with one of there fantastic flatbreads.

WE totally love JIKO and don't find it boring at all-the decor is a little dark but that is the whole theme of the AKL. We have had excellent service and excellent food the times we've been there. It is also competitively priced with the other upper scale restaurants. FF prices are pretty much the same as JIKO as are AP (which is also very good btw), CG, Narcoossee's, YCG, Blue Zoo and Palio.

We ate at FF once and were not impressed HOWEVER this was quite some time ago and I would like to try it again. I was just disappointed after all of the rave reviews, but I think it was what I ordered more than anything (service was good and dh liked his meal).

If you are taking votes mine would be for JIKO!:p

Thanks everyone! I'm definately making a PS at Jikos & Flying Fish and see how adventeous we are feeling that night. Both sound wonderful.
Thanks again!
