Flying Fish Monday May 5-our review

WLLover, I had the cantonese lobster on my last trip to BZ and while it was very, very good, it was just too sweet for me as a meal, so use that caution.

Daughter always gets one of the 'fish my way' selections with the cucumber, dijon something or other sauce (just great). Also I find their wedge salad, as simple as it seems, to be just fantastic, not to mention their spectacular bread and (type always eludes me) spiced butter. Also the miso glazed sea bass was excellent.

Anyway, I just love great food and this has always been for me (and I sincerely hope it is for you next time).

I agree about BZ! My fave is the shellfish platter appetizer and the sea bass was simply "amazing".:thumbsup2

TK-I have dined at BZ 3 times. The first two were INCREDIBLE...I just loved the place and DH and I deemed it our all time favorite WDW restaurant (I know it is not owned by WDW, but you know what I mean...)

The last time we ate there, the entire experience was unpleasant, and the food was so mediocre. It KILLED me to give it a poor review.

Since then, PP2 and many others have given it a huge thumbs up, so I WANT to believe it was simply an off night. We'll see in September!

PP2-Thanks for the heads up about the lobster...I do not like sweet food at dinner, for the most part.

LOL...please reread my post...I said my HUBBY stuffs them for MEEEE! Now, honestly...it is usually me stuffing them for myself. But when hubby wants to "woo" me, he knows how to stuff an olive, baby!

 Now you see what a sexist I am!!! I read it, but I guess it just never occurred to me that a hubby could or would stuff olives for his wife!!

Now if I had realized it was for "woo-ing" purposes, I probably would have understood the first time around!! :lmao:

I really hope you have another :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 experience in September. Not sure when we'll get back there, can't be soon enough for me.......I dream about the shellfish platter.

I have some pics from last trip if you would like to see them.:goodvibes

yes, yes, all for the "woo-ing" which is a nice way of saying, ummmm, SEDUCING! Although I am not sure if it is the olive stuffing or the copious amounts of vodka that I consume with them that helps him reach his goal!

LOL, I am just kidding, he is a pretty nice guy, even when he DOESN'T have ulterior motives.

I would love to see them! You can send them to me, or start a thread on the restaurants board if you wish. I wouldn't mind if you posted them here, but I know the mods like to keep it on topic.:rolleyes1

Well we all have our own ways don't we?! Around here it usually takes a some type of before dinner cocktail & a bottle of wine with dinner! I can tell you that blue-cheese stuffed olives wouldn't hurt the situation one bit! ;)

And just so we can stay on topic. I was a little surprised to see the other not so glowing reveiw of FF also. But I really shouldn't have been surprised.

I myself have had to give Yachtsman a big :thumbsup2 , only to be followed by a "Well it was good, but...." We also had a 2nd turn at Jiko, that didn't compare to the first. I actually had to send the lamb dish back to the kitchen because it was bad (as in spoiled). But overall the meal was still pretty darn good & I would venture trying it again.

I have to wonder if it's the frequency in which we visit these restaurants or the expectations that we go in with? :confused3

I skimmed your pictures, TK. I think maybe we will order that shellfish platter. I hate to be crass, but do you remember the price on that? Iremember at BZ having the best Cosmopolitan EVER...it was layered and just "different." So cool about meeting the celebs! I am going to go back and review your entire thread when I have time.

I noticed you LOVE CG...we did, too, until our last visit. I posted a review when I returned and of course was flamed for it. Here we go again...it seems WDW restaurants are hit or miss!

shovan-We have only dined at Jiko once, and we LOVED it...but who is to say we would love it a second time? We are trying Yachtsman's for the first time ever on our Sept trip...I am crossing my fingers we get it on a "good" night...I have heard so many mixed reviews.

We will be at WDW 4 nights, staying at BVC...we are dining at
Yachtsman's
BZ
Biergarten
Crystal Palace (before MNSSHP)
and also Chef Mickey's for breakfast.

Yachtsman's is the only new restaurant for us this trip. We love all the ones mentioned, except BZ we are now "iffy" on.

It has been a pleasure talking to fellow "foodies" about WDW dining.

I believe the shellfish platter was $50 but OMG so worth every penny. We know fresh seafood and it was amazing.:thumbsup2

We're doing all new places on our next trip, Yachtsman being one. We're also trying Narcoossee's, Bistro De Paris, and Raglan Road. All new lunch places too - The Plaza, Yak & Yeti and Sci-Fi. We're also going to try and snag a Party for the Senses.

We are foodies for sure!!!!:cool1: :dance3: :yay:

Thank you! I look forward to your reviews...we still need to dine at Bistro and Narcoosees also. We dined at Citricos a few years ago and LOVED it and we keep meaning to get back there. Too many restaurants to try, and too many favorites to return to! I need MORE DISNEY TRIPS!:yay:

Guess I need to start "woo-ing" my DH!

Enjoyed the review!
We ate at FF on Friday May 9. My review (when I can get around to doing it:) ) will be pretty positive as well. Was our first time sitting at the Chefs counter--think we'll make that a tradition from now on.

I think you will enjoy Yachtsmen. I think having a child with us & being in a larger group really affected the "feel" of the rest. for me. Our 1st trip was just DH & I, we were seated in a quiet area of the rest, we're celebrating an anniversary & we had a very attentive waitress. The 2nd trip was with my BIL, SIL & 4 yr old niece. We were seated in a different area, where it was much louder, the server seemed more rushed. The food was still very good, although I had cold potatoes. Maybe I'm wrong to compare the two events, when it was really "us" & the difference in our party that caused the changed. It honestly felt like two different restaurants. The quality of the beef alone at Yachtmen beats out several of the other signature rests.

Hope you enjoy the BCV!! We love it there!:goodvibes

Can't wait to see your review, UncleR. Yes, even DD enjoyed sitting there. You mean the "bar" like area, correct? It seemd to hot to sit in the lower chairs on the counter area by the kitchen...too many flames!

Shovan-I understand what you are saying about yachtsmans. And I cannot wait to stay at BCV, although I fear I will be very spoiled!

We sat at the "bar counter" and LOVED it there!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the review.

I was so happy to read they have lambchops back on the menu. Were they a special?

My DH had the lamb a couple of years agao at the FF and loved it, but everytime since, it hasn't been on the menu. Now, we can dine there again next week!

I'll be keeping an eagle for your September review. Brenda (oybolshoi) made ressies for us in October to try it for the first time. If we have a horrible experience, you will ALL hear about it. :rotfl2:
