All of our friends that we dine out with have told us about this gem. We just never seemed to be able to fit it into our schedules before. Wow, what we were missing!
We ate at the Flying Fish for the first time during our trip on Tuesday evening. We had a late lunch at Cinderella's for the kids, so we were by no means famished, so that reads no appetizer or salad... let's get straight to business.
I had the tuna, rare, over wasabi mashed potatoes with caviar mashed into it with a lobster sauce over it and fried onions. I have been dreaming about this meal ever since. My DH had the tilefish and loved it. We ordered dessert since once we saw the platter we couldn't resist. The kids had the fish and chips (blech!) and french onion soup. The soup was a little spicy for my DS's taste, but he finished it.
The second time we ate there was Saturday night. We had seen other tables being served the endive and pear salad with feta and honeyed walnuts on our first visit and it looked yummy. It is served with a very light basalmic vinegrette. It was delicious. I have attempted to make it at home since. I just have to make some adjustments to my vinegrette to make it better. I also have substituted blue cheese at home since my DH likes it better than feta.
Anyway, DH had the red snapper... their signature dish. He had his socks knocked off... DELICIOUS! I had the salmon filet, rare, with bacon spetzel. It was a unique combination that paired very well together. The kids had the Mickey pasta with butter and gobbled it down. Luckily, it doesn't take much to impress them.
Both nights, the received a fish-shaped game for finishing their meals.
If you haven't tried this restaurant, please do. It is so far off the charts above the Coral Reef that it's not funny. Although not an inexpensive meal choice, it is certainly worth the extra money. Besides, you're on vacation and nothing at WDW is inexpensive anyway.
