Flying Fish August 3rd New Menu Posted

Does anyone else think this might not be the full menu? I'm holding out hope for something more...

I'm hoping after trying a few things, they'll go back to a few of their signature dishes.

I had a thought about the snapper dish. Is snapper considered sustainable? If it isn't, that may explain why it's not on the first draft of the new menu.

1) Snapper is getting more expensive.
2) Disney wants profit.
3) Look for this more-and-more across the restaurant spectrum.
4) With DDP, eateries can't change prices to reflect increased costs, so they are getting cheaper entrees.
5) Prior to DDP, if costs went up, they would just increase the price, like ANY OTHER restaurant.

6) Another THANK YOU to DDP !!!

In regards to the potato wrapped snapper, I liked it a lot. However, this is an old fashioned dish, and while it can be consideed "classic" if a restaurant wants to update, they often remove that type of entree.

I think that while many of us have enters that we enjoy, order every trip, and feel that they need to stay as an homage to prior days, we may be in the minority when looking at the bigger picture of any given restaurant.

I think that Disney restaurants find themselves between a rock and a hard place when they release menus. These menus are posted online in order to assist guests who use them to book meals 18 days out. They need to include options that will last for the long haul, and this is not a task I would want to take on.

is anyone sick of seeing the same thing on all menus?

free range chicken
some kind of bison
some kind of filet
scallops
pork belly
lentils
icy blue mussels

Kind of disappointed the FF signature dishes are gone as well. now it is like... the boardwalk version of Tiffin

This. My initial thought was it's like a safer, more seafood focused, more boring California Grill without the view after the refurb.

From the pictures, I'm concerned that they dropped the excellent rub they used to have on the steaks, when combined with the wood grill was one of my favorite steaks. I realize these are press photos and they still may have it, so here's hoping. If they still have it, it might make us change things around to make time to go there. I can't even imagine how good that would be on an American Wagyu filet!

The paella-ey concept for the one prawn and cobia dish is neat but will definitely lack the socarrat which is the best part.

I get that Hokkaido scallops are on the larger side, but 3 for an entree seems just a little too small.

Chalk me up as another one missing the potato scale snapper with leek fondue. I guess I'll have to try Monsieur Paul's now, but I doubt that Rosemary cream sauce can stand up to that leek fondue, but we'll see. Monsieur Paul's scales are thicker too and from the pictures seem to be more inconsistently cooked from dish to dish as a result, in comparison to what I remember having at flying fish prefurb.

for someone like me who does not visit the parks all that often and doesn't go to many signatures when I do (2 planned, last trip was 2 years ago) it is probably fine. But FF seems to have lost the "signature" part of it's "signature" status. I guess just a little bummed that they couldn't keep what they are known for and shake up the rest of the menu. Also it seems that whoever theirr food service is is delivering the same ingredients to every signature now :-p I will go to CA Grill and Narcoossees and enjoy both experiences but if I were doing an adult trip with more signatures I'd be more disappointed.

Reservation open 7/29 for the re-opening of Flying Fish on August 3rd. From the menu posted they no longer offer the snapper. That was a favorite.

If you are still craving the potato encrusted snapper, check out Monsier Paul. They have the entree listed.

I wanted to thank the posts here. I got a reservation for Flying Fish in September. Can't wait.

as someone who would visit here every single trip and order the same entrée every single time, I am very disappointed to have it off the menu

Any time I would try something else (DH never ventured off the snapper), I would wish I had ordered the snapper. FF was the only place that my DH would request every trip

Will be watching reviews to see what people think of the new menu.

Not loving this change :sad2:

Just finished reading the menu and I'm really not seeing much that would entice me to go there. I'm thinking that once the prices become known I'll be even less inclined to go.

I am going to miss that mozzarella and tomato salad something fierce...

And that Char Crusted NY Strip appears to be missing in action as well--

IT wasn't really "spiced" in any sense of the word, just char grilled sort of 'Pittsburgh Style".

Doubt they would try that with the new filet---

I actually noticed the same items in California grill jiko artist point... I think I basically all the signatures have similar proteins and maybe a different interpretation by the chef?

When I read the menu, that was my nearly my first impression--same proteins and one pasta dish as every other Disney restaurant. Granted, the chefs will all put their touches on the items, but still--too much of the same old, same old. . . I too will miss the potato crusted snapper and crab cake, but I get the need for change and a new chef putting his stamp on the restaurant.

Gah! I was so excited about Flying Fish returning. . .and now, I'm pretty underwhelmed by the new menu. The snapper, the sushi appetizer, the calamari, the NY strip, the tomato/mozerella salad, even that mac & cheese. . .not ONE of my faves returning. Sigh. Really glad I booked a last meal here right before the refurb.

Got all excited to see that the FF would be open for my next trip in September. Rushed to make reservation. Then looked at the menu and found the snapper gone. My all time favorite of any signature restaurant is no more. So that's me done. Very sad. Oh well I'm never on the dining plan so that's around $300 saved which was what my last meal there cost. I just loved that dish. So different, and it blew me away.

We have never been there so I was glad to hear it was opening ahead of schedule as we are staying in BWV. (We usually do a few signatures each trip since DH and I skip lunch, so I was saving a signature for our last night.) I don't see a kids menu or a dessert menu, so i'm guessing they will update those soon. But I agree about the menu, I showed DH it and we decided instead to do Narcoosees for 2 nights during our trip. I had heard so many great things about the potato wrapped snapper, if we had gone that's what I would have wanted to try.

I'm thinking this is indeed the full menu. At least the one they intend to open the restaurant with. I'm sure it will be tweaked as time goes on and the chef sees what sells and what doesn't. And what the bean counters say.
