Hi,

Hope some of you expert spring breakers can give me some advice. I found flights from Tampa to NYC for travel on Sunday, February 21 (last day of spring break) for approx $200 one way.

Now I realize this is hard to predict but do you think thats the best I'm gonna see at this point or will it drop a bit? Flight is on Northwest.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Waiting for airfare is like investing in the stock market! Sometimes you look really smart by waiting, and sometimes, well...not so smart. Sometimes the price will go up, and sometimes it will go down.

Are you a gambler? My opinion is: if you are comfortable with the price now you should book it.

A little OT, but I had no idea why the flights were so high when I was checking them for February. (I didn't know that some areas have spring break then.) We have spring break the week before Easter, and our flights out of Newburgh and/or Albany are even higher than that.

Two hundred doesn't sound so bad, for spring break ticket prices.

Thanks Bob! I am ok with the price and schedule. However, I've never flown NWA so I'm a bit apprehensive about flying with them. I'm not the best flyer to begin with.

Maybe I should start another thread about NWA :).

Thanks again for your response.

Mom23,

Public schools in NYC are off the week of February 14th. Also, not sure if you noticed but the $200 is one way. I'm not sure what day I will be flying out of NYC but I can snag something for around $140 so i'm looking at a total of about $300 and change.

For our spring break it is looking like $349 for our return flight....which means that we may not go, or drive. Last year we were all geared up for driving...because the prices were so high, but they dropped 2 weeks before we left, and it seemed like such a better idea to fly than drive with three kids.

Also, depending on the airlines, sometimes they will give you credit for any price difference on your booked flights. You just have to check the prices daily, and then call them up if you see them drop.

Have you checked SW out of Islip Long Island? I don't know if that's an option for you but we got good prices last time we flew out of there.

Good luck!

$349 is what Jetblue is showing for my return also. Jetblue is my preferred airline but I just can't pay it. So $200 one way is looking pretty good right now!

Thanks for the comparison.

I just checked Southwest and found flights for $113 into Islip and $89 into Laguardia. You might want to check their flight times to see if that would work for you. Have a great trip!

I did try but they are also very high. Thank you!

I may jump on the SWA flight and do as another poster suggested and hawk the prices to see if they drop. I don't know SWA policy so that will be my next step. I'm supposed to be working today!!..lol

I wish I was seeing what your seeing. I got all excited...lol

I just checked and everything was over $300 one way for February 21. Thanks anyway :).

AHHH! I clicked the wrong date. I AM SO SORRY!!!! I would certainly take the $200 flight you found. Man, and I was so excited for you. :sad1:

In an attempt to redeem myself, I checked the right date on kayak and came up with one-way fares from Tampa to LaGuardia for $150 on NW or Delta and $160 on United.

Again, I am so sorry for the earlier mix up.

No worries - I know you were only trying to help :).

I will keep plugging away and hopefully I will be brave enough to bite the bullet. Thanks again.

For this particular trip, I'd use farecast. They'll give you an idea if that $200 is a good price or not. But, flying back to NY from anywhere in FL on the Sunday at the end of a school vacation week just won't be cheap. If you can fly back Saturday, you might save a few bucks.

Brian,

Will definitely check out forecast. Love when I find something new to research my trips with.

Your absolutely right about coming back to NY at the end of spring break - not gonna find any real bargains. Going to have to just book what I find acceptable. Realistically, I usually pay under $200 to fly during the summer so $100 more (give or take) per person isn't really that bad given the circumstances.

Thanks again!
