Our family was originally scheduled to fly JetBlue direct from MCO to BUF (Buffalo) today (Wednesday Mar 12th).
Well, at 8:45 last night we received an email.... the flight was cancelled. :scared1:
So DH got onto the phone quick and rebooked us on a connector, MCO to JFK, and (hopefully), JFK to BUF. We're leaving earlier (much, much earlier).

I'll be honest, we're pretty worried about being able to get into BUF at this point - the weather reports are calling for them to receive an unbelievable amount of snow....

Anyone else caught up in this mess?

Asking for good thoughts from fellow DISers. I think we will need all the help we can get on this March Break trip home!

Good luck! Not Disney, but we'd planned to leave this pm for a ski trip to Ellicottville. With the blizzard warning, we're changing our plans. All indications are BUF is going to be really badly hit, and I'm worried about roads being closed. It's supposed to be a lot better (albeit freezing) tomorrow. I hope the hotel will give us a break and let us cancel tonight without it costing us. It's going to be a rather quick ski trip now, but at least we'll get there safely.

I hope your travel goes well. Stay safe!

Safe journeys.. both on your flights and once you get back to BUF.
If you are able to fly in to BUF - they are warning people to stay off the roads. (as per the Buffalo NWS statement issued last evening) You may need a hotel for the night there.. They are in the bullseye on this storm. 40 to 45cm of blowing snow are expected.

hope you and your family make it down with no issues other then what you have had to deal with cocerning your flight. Have a magical trip!:thumbsup2

We are in the same boat! Found out yesterday afternoon southwest cancelled our MCO to BUF flight for today! They couldn't rebook us until next Wednesday so we cancelled and got an early morning Friday flight on JetBlue to play it safe! So an extra couple days in Disney I guess we will survive :)

Not much better in Ontario I'm sad to say....another 25cm of snow expected and 100kph wind gusts. It's noon and I can't see across the street.

Probably a bit late to reply, but just looking at Pearson and Buffalo airport sites and pretty much all arrivals are cancelled.

I'm in downtown Toronto and it's snowing pretty heavily and fairly windy. Hunker down wherever you are and stay safe!

Update:
Well, we got to JFK.... and we even got so far as to have pre-boarding announced..... and then 5 minutes to boarding they cancelled the flight.:faint:
So we spent another hour back in line and have gotten ourselves on the 9pm flight out tonight. I am VERY doubtful we will make it but at the same time, we feel stuck and unable to leave... unable to book a hotel in NY, "just in case" our flight does, by some miracle, actually make it to Buffalo.

I understand that the snow wasn't the main issue - it was the winds & bad visibility. Anyone in the Niagara/ Buffalo area? Can you tell me if/ when the flurries die down and the really cold air settles in?
It's so hard sitting, waiting, not knowing what is going on.

As an aside, I'm so proud of my DD - she's being so good and patient through all this craziness. A few tears at one point when our flight was cancelled, but once we got rebooked she was just fine. The wait at the airport doesn't seem to be fazing her.

Thank you so much everyone for your good thoughts and best wishes. We are definitely needing them. We just wanna go home!

I'm in Oakville.....I really doubt that you will be flying into BUF tonight. The weather has progressively worsened as the afternoon has gone on. The worst of it is still to come later this evening. The Niagara/Buffalo area is expected to receive 30-40cm of snow.

Here in Oakville we are due approx. 20-25cm and I would say we've got at least 15 now. The sky is dark and the snow is coming down hard. You can barely see across the street.

I wish you luck and hope you get home soon/safely.

Idk about Buffalo but we're home in Rochester and the blizzard is supposed to be in affect until 5am tomorrow morning. The visibility is supposed to be zero at times and it will continue to be extremely windy with blowing snow :/

We're supposed to be flying out of Niagara to Orlando Friday evening for DH's business trip and I was worried about this being on Friday instead of today. I can imagine what you're going through! Safe travels and hopefully the weather is less serious in Buffalo!

Hi we were booked Air Canada 1.15 direct back to Pearson from MCO were delayed 2hrs, landed at Pearson at 6pm. took forever to get off the plane and get our bags. bad traffic made it home at 9pm. We live 20 mins from Pearson. There was a fellow on the plane who was on a cancelled Southwest flight to Buffalo. He was able to get the last seat on our flight, was going to try to take a bus back to Vineland where he lives and then some time get back to Buffalo to get his truck. To the OP hang in there! hope you make it home soon.

Thank you everyone for you good thoughts and wishes. It really helped to know that there were people out there pulling for us.

Here's the ending of our travel nightmare:
After a huge delay stuck in JFK, our flight out to Buffalo DID leave at approximately 9:30 pm. The bad winds and snow blizzard conditions finally stopped and flights starting getting pushed through that night at about 8:30pm. It was a rough flight home with some turbulence but we landed at 10:30pm. People cheered when we landed!
Our daughter let herself go and had a good long cry once we got into the airport. I don't blame her one bit.:(

We quickly booked a hotel room, DH managed to get the car out of long-term parking pretty quickly and after a small glitch about our room (bedbug evidence in the first room, so we got switched to another one), we were all passed out cold by 11:30pm and slept like rocks.

Have had a great sleep, picked up some groceries at Wegman's and we're now home safe and sound!

I do want to send a big shout out to the JetBlue counter ticket agents. I was helped by Alicia Knight and she was GREAT. She originally put us on a Saturday morning flight out of JFK (a 3 day delay!!!) but patiently and tirelessly worked to move us onto last night's flight. What a wonderful person!!!! The other agents at the counter were the same - trying hard to get people moved onto earlier flights as best as they could.

So thanks again to DISers for all the support and the heads-up on the weather news. It was a long, long wait in JFK and all of your messages really helped me keep my spirits up.

Glad to hear you made it home safely..

These are the kind of end of vacation memories that will last a lifetime! lol..
