Flyfly/Sarasota

Ahhh...two hours...now you get to see how long it takes me to get to Universal -- one way. :)

I thought when I was on Siesta Key I went to a beach called Lido Beach. Do I have my geography correct? Is this the place everyone is talking about on this thread?

Although Lido Beach is close to Siesta Beach, they are separate beach areas.

Does anyone know anything about these restaurants:

Alley Cat Cafe
Sarasota Ale House
Chacha Coconuts
Moores Stonecrab
Phillippi Creek Oyster Bar

Any info is appreciated, especially re: atmosphere, pricing, kid-friendliness. Thanks again!

Hi! Hope I'm not jumping in too late, but I live here in sunny Sarasota and have been to Sarasota Ale House (good prices, excellent drink specials, nice family atmosphere) and Phillippi Creek Oyster Bar (a bit pricey, but a great family restaurant also has a cool little ice cream shop across the parking lot).

Also, for breakfast there's the Broken Egg Restaurant and a great place for drinks and dessert the Daiquiri Deck (both on the Siesta Key strip), and for a great Amish buffett, the Dutch Haus Family Restaurant.

So, yes, I could ramble on, place to see there is Mote Marine (which has been mentioned), right next to it is the Pelican Man reserve. We love the Jungle Gardens which is right down 41 from the Van Wezel.

Have fun and enjoy!

Hey!!!! Nice to meet a DISer who lives close by!! My dad's eaten at the Sarasota Ale House...we were just talking about it this morning, in fact! We're going to try to one on Kirkman on Sunday, thus why it was brought up.

I thought I read "libido" beach at first glance!:;) Still lido beach sound nice too. Talking on beaches, I had a lovely week at St.Pete's Beach - wonderful beach bar serviing wonderful cocktails

Not too late at all, Twinkling--we're leaving in 7 days!! I'll add the Ale House and the others to my list, and the Mote Marine is a definite.

hey Susie! I just tried the Ale House in Orlando, and since the one in Sarasota and the one in Orlando are part of a chain, I'm glad to inform you I was pleased with the restaurant. :) Good food and great prices! ::yes::

Thanks for the review, Flyfly. And, I love your new picture! I"m getting my DD 13 all fired up to see Ghostbusters--can't wait!

Hi Flyfly_Eclipse, great to meet you! We just got back from Orlando ourselves. Spent the weekend at Universal.

One of the things I love about the Ale House is the $2.50 Skyy Vodka drink special. I moved here from Georgia last year and still cannot get over HAPPY HOUR!! We go to Chili's and they have 2 for 1 all day. Any drink.

Anyway, Susiebrown have a great trip and make sure to catch a few sunsets on the beach. They are so beautiful down here!

cool! I was in Orlando on Sunday...but left after the last GB Show. Though I rarely announce that anymore, because some people want trip reports...and mine are always the same...LOL

The weather is looking bad for the two days we'll be at Universal (Mon. and Tues.) I hope the forecast is wrong, or maybe it's still too far out to be accurate. I'd hate to miss the Ghostbusters (among other things!)
