Flydrive v flight+car??

I've just been pricing up a trip to Florida (where else?). We're planning to go in August 2009 but I was using 2008 prices just to get a feel for the cost.

I priced up a Virgin flydrive and BA flights plus Dollar car rental and ended up with nearly a £700 difference. Does that sound right?

I used the Dollar price with platinum insurance would that give us the same insurance cover as booking through Virgin? Does anyone know if we'd still have to give a credit card deposit if we had platinum cover - we never have needed to when booking via Virgin.

Thanks if you can answer any of the above - I knew it might be cheaper to book seperately as I won't be paying for the holiday reps, but £700 is a lot more than I expected.

I have booked a flydrive with VH for next year and we will not be taking their car hire. I will be renting from someone like usrentacar or airline network, much cheaper.

It does seem a very big difference which makes me wonder if I'd get the same level of service or protection.

How does that work, do you just not pick up the car, I thought the fly drive included the car although still got to pay insurance.

That's pretty much the deal, you don't pick up the car and rent from another supplier which will work out cheaper than the package deal insurance.

Don't try to cancel the car as your package deal cost will rise significantly.
The level of service/protection will be at least as good with another reputable supplier.

basicly the free car hire is just the rental of a car.what costs is the insurance of the car.You dont have to take up operaters insurance,you can go for your own cheaper one insted
