Fly song or Jetblue

We are heading to WDW this summer. We haven't flown since 9/11 and drove to WDW back in 2003. The kids refuse to drive again. So DH, who hates to fly, has given in to flying this time. I am torn between Song and Jetblue. I can book Song now at a good price. Jetblue still does not have the week we want, they are only booking up to May 2. We have flown Song when they were Delta Express and it was OK. I am more concerned with safety issues than anything. For some reason Airbus concerns me as well as knowing that Jetblue outsources their heavy maintenance to another country. But now that Delta is in bankruptcy, are the employees really going to be very happy and are flights going to be canceled or rescheduled. I know this all sounds silly. So after all this, which airline do people think is the best and safest to fly, Song or Jetblue? I am interested in everyone's opinion. Thanks.

I fly Song about 12 times a year. I'm just a Song kind of person.

I would give Jet Blue a try, if the price was ever right, just never found it as low as Song. It would have to be a really low price, for me to give up on the miles. I get at least 2 free trips a year on Song.

I fly both Song and Jetblue. I do find Jetblue to be more friendly. But both are priced about the same out of boston for most of my trips. I usually fly Song for $59-69 each way Jet blue is about the same price. I am flying down Song because the flight is at 8:55 so I get to wake up at disney this will give me a full day. I am returning on Jetblue as the flight time got us into Boston at 3:40 so my DS6 will get some much needed rest for school the next day. Both flights cost me $155.40 for 2 people.

Song/Delta seems to be changing flight times to accomodate later arrivals to Orlando. If either has changed flight times on me ( both have done this to me before) I have had no problem changing to a better flight time with no issues or increases in cost. As I fly during the week ie mon-friday I have never paid more than $156 RT.

I problably could fly out SW and save a few $$ but I like having the seat assignment issue out of the way. I would hate to have to worry about If i can sit with my DS6.

So I think both are equal so look at price and flight times. Both are also one way flight airlines so there is no need to book RT on one or the other. I have never been exposed to extra security measures but then again I take off my shoes and make sure all my bag items are easy to see. I also have my Camera and film hand checked. I put film in one plastic bag and plastic cases in another and refill the plastic cases while I wait for my flight. I also make sure my camera is empty so it is easier for them to check.

As for the maintenence of the planes, each airline only has one type of plane, so fairly easy (and cheap) for mechanics to take care of them. Much routine maintenence for JetBlue I believe is done in El Salvador, but I believe Delta does some significant foriegn maintenence outsourcing as well (at least my pal who used to be a mechanic for Delta tells me that is the case). So as for safety, I dunno.

We have flown both and enjoyed both. We have done a trip with the outbound on JetBlue and the return on Song, since that was cost-effiective and fit our schedule better. For our next trip we are on Song for both legs, but our friends coming with us are outbound on Song, return on JetBlue. Song has thrown a LOT of extra planes onto its Orlando and Ft Lauderdale routes, so for next year it looks like capacity for those routes doubled. So I expect that you will find your preferred time on Song, but check JetBlue as well to optimize.

Makes sense to me! I've always wanted to try Jet Blue, people who love it are practically evangelists... but I have never once found it to be the cheapest flight in the market. It's always more, often significantly more. I like Song a lot. They are almost always the cheapest and have some of the same fun Jet Blue amenities.

Don't know where you're flying from... but in the NYC Song is almost always cheaper than Jet Blue, at least every time I have looked.

Last time that we flew to WDW we flew on Song, I was highly impressed with the service/price/etc... The only thing that people didn't like was my sister and my mother had the "wraps" (vegitarian, and I forget what the other one is) during the flight home, and they said that it was kind of nasty. I had the chicken salad, and it was delicious! I'd definately fly Song again myself. I've never flown JetBlue (although I would). Although there are a few things to think about: A: Jetblue flys Airbus A320s which are a French made aircraft, so if you're extremely patriotic you might prefer Song's American made Boeing 757s (the 757 is also the larger aircraft of the two.) Also, lately I've heard that there's a airworthyness directive (AD) out for the A320. An AD is given when something could be wrong with an aircraft, so if you're going for safety at the time, I'd be ever so slightly more inclined to fly Song. Although on the other hand, with the event last week, JetBlue proved itself to have AMAZING pilots (if you're not an aviation enthusiast you might not understand, but the emergency landing by a JetBlue aircraft last week was handled perfectly by the pilots.) but Song would likely employ pilots just as experianced (you'd need AT LEAST 1,500 hours of flying experiance to be hired by either airline, in reality, probably much more.) So in conclusion, both airlines are very similar, so I'd just pick the one with the lowest cost, if the both had the same cost, I'd pick Song just because I've had an extrodinarily good experiance with them before.

As a New Yorker who will not fly out of Kennedy Airport (only LaGuardia) I can't give you an opinion on JetBlue as they don't fly to MCO out of LGA. We flew Song last year and just recently booked Song again for our February 06 flight. Do not let Delta's bankruptcy scare you into not using Song. There are plenty of airlines in bankruptcy for longer periods of time and they are still running. Even American narrowly missed filing if it wasn't for the pilots union making some sacrifices. Anywho, that's neither here nor there.

We found Song very friendly, very comfortable and very cheap. I will note that their flights don't really have the best record for leaving on time but no one in our family has ever really had too long of a delay. Usually its the later flights that are longer waits as once one flight is off it slows down the whole day.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Right now I am leaning towards Song out of Boston since right now it has an early morning flight so we can mazimize time in WDW! I know that is subject to change. Also, the price is good and I want to get a price before they go up due to fuel costs. Jetblue does not have my dates scheduled yet. Thanks again.

And you get to use the nice new Terminal A with Song!!! Although I have heard they are having some difficulties since some of their tenents aren't making as much money as they had hoped. But, we fly Song all the time and love the new terminal. I, also, have found that I can get the times I need, at a lower fare with Song.

I am flying out of boston using song on friday(going to WDW) wee!
we always price the flights and song has always been the cheapest, jet blue has been more expensive and had worse times, so song has always been good(as long as you get the tickets early on)

I used JetBlue once on a business trip and loved it! I have no experience with Song. Neither flies from PHL.

My only concern with Song is their bankruptcy proceedings. Normally, I do not see that as a concern, but sometimes when carriers are in cost-cutting mode, they cut routes. Other airlines may pick up the slack, assuming they have space. In summer, that could be a dicey situation.

I was quite pleased with JetBlue. USAIrways uses Airbus planes as well and I find them to be somewhat roomier. They have had no such issues with the planes that I am aware of. Perhaps JetBlue just ran into back luck with regards to their models. If you are truly concerned, though, you should go with your gut.

Airbus and Boeing are both excelent aircraft manufacturers. I prefer the way the Airbus flys over the B-757, but thats just me. The A320 (Jetblue's Airbus) is much more roomy then the 757.

I feel this same way. I found Jetblue staff to be friendlier. I also found the seats on Jetblue to much more comfortable.
I would fly song again to WDW as it is only about 3hrs, so I can deal with the seats being a little less comfy.
I AM flying Song again in Nov. as the $ was much better than Jetblue (we are a family of 6). $30. per tix adds up quick!
I think you will be happy with either. Had I not flown Jetblue first I would have been ecstatic with Song. Our family loved the food.
