I bought my DD8 a Fly pen/computer for Xmas this week when I saw them on clearance and I was wondering... does anyone here have one of these? I know it was very hot last year around Christmas time and it looks like it's really cool, but I don't actually know anyone who has ever used one. How easy is it to use? How much entertainment and education value does it have? And most importantly.... how awesome/not awesome is it??????

I'd love to hear about it too. Where did you find it on clearance?

My (then) 11 Year old nephew recieved one for Christmas last year!!!! Its on of those "take out every once in a blue moon" type toys! Not worth the 99.00 it cost. :sad2:

And the games you can buy for it, like baseball & Batman....are SO Riduculously HARD for ANYONE to figure out!

Cool novelty item if you can get one cheap!

UGH, bought my daughter one for Christmas last year because she SOOOO wanted it...and I think she only used it ONCE! Plus I bought a bunch of accessories, the paper, some software...I think they are still in the box.

My daughter is older, though, and was way more into video games. Unless you think it is something that your child REALLY will use (and it should be kids from about 6-9) I wouldn't bother. It was VERY expensive last year ($99 if I remember correctly) and a total waste of money for us.

Hope your child will enjoy it...and USE it...more than mine did.

There is a game about locating state capitals that my kids really liked. They also learned the capitals of all the Mexican states playing it. But DD lost her "launch pad" (?) and says she can't use the pen without it. I haven't had time to try to get another one from the company.

Target had them marked down a couple of weeks ago and the same question was asked on the Budget board. It was pretty much one of those things they play with once and it gets put away. DD had wanted one last year and when I saw them on sale, I was tempted, now I am glad I saved my money.

I guess Ill have to check at Target, I think ds might like it. I dont know he is getting to that point where toys arent all that cool anymore.

He was the odd one though too, he loved his Iquest and still uses that.

He told me yesterday that he really likes working with tools. Ok so what do you get an 11 year old kid who likes tools?

I got mine at Target for about $85 and it includes a recharging unit. My DD is the type who is always drawing and coloring and working on some sort of "project" so I thought this might be something she would like. However, I can also totally see everyone's point about it being more of a "novelty" item and not really getting played with a lot. Thanks for all the opinions! I will have to think hard about whether to return it or keep it.

Ok I found 2 left at my Target, I picked one up but have to do some more research on it.

They were $87.

Costco has a set for $100. and it includes
What You Get in this Package

Fly PenTop Computer
Harry Potter Marauder's Map
Recharging System with AC Adapter
Fly Notebook
Earbuds
17 Games
35 Fly Paper Pages
3 Interactive Fly-FX Cards
Interactive Map
1 Silver Faceplate
1 Rechargeable Battery

The one I got for $87 has

Fly Pentop computer
earbuds
carrying case
Fly Launch Pad
17 games
Fly Paper
3 interactive Fly FX cards
Interactive Map
1 Silver Face PLate
recharging system
2 rechargeable batteries
AC adapter

So Im thinking I got a decent deal. Im not sure how much he would use the HP stuff anyway, he has kind of gotten out of that. Besides its only $9.99 at Target reg price.

So thanks for the tip about Target Im going to keep going back to check the price.

I bought both my kids one for Christmas last year. My dd used it once and my ds never has used his. It was expensive with all the accesories that you need with it.

In my opinion, the Fly pen is a cool idea but not worth the money. I am dissapointed that my kids didn't get into it.

well I hope ds likes it.

I found a bunch of the accesories at TRU yesterday I got 5 or 6 of them for $24 total.

I hope he uses it. Its right up his alley.

Has anyone had good results with it?
