Fly or drive from Atlanta?

I will be in Atlanta on business for 3 weeks straight in July and would like an opportunity to go to WDW while I am there. I will be able to go for 4 days and was wondering how long the drive is from ATL to Orlando (it seems like a long one). I could also fly down but I would have to pay for airfare (if i drive I can take the rental car). Any advice would be appreciated. Airfare is running about $170 RT on AirTran, is that reasonable? Thx

Hi--we live North of Atlanta and almost always drive. If you consider the 2 hours you need to arrive at the airport before your flight, the 1 1/2 hour flight, then waiting for luggage/rental car/shuttle, etc. we figure it's worth the 7 hour drive to save the money and have our own car. However---if money was not an option, then I'd say fly, get a rental and enjoy a few more hours in Disney.

I agree with Belle completely. I live in south Atlanta and have chosen the drive over flying each time. You gain about 2 hours by flying, but give up 4-5 hundred dollars for flight and rental.

Same - we always drive. It takes about 71/2 hrs drive - we are north of the city.

I live in Atlanta also, and always fly to Orlando. I would much rather fly than drive. I'm not a big fan of road trips.

Driving is a much more reasonable option if you are family but when you factor in that you have limited time for the parks I would fly. $170 sounds great. Since you only have 4 days you would have to waste two of those days driving which IMHO is not worth it. You could leave on the earliest flight out be in the parks that afternoon, fly out the last night on the latest flight. This would give you maximum park time. You wouldn't need to rent a car in WDW if you don't want to. staying at an All Stars resort would be your cheapest option and would be plenty of room for just one person. While Mears Shuttle from the airport isn't as fast as a taxi it is a very cheap option.

If your company doesn't pay for your rental car in Atlanta you don't have your personal car in Atlanta you would need to rent a car and pay for gas which could definitly run you more than $170 for 4 days.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, looks like I will fly down since it will give me more time to play :) Thanks
