Anyone ever fly into Tampa Int Airport instead of Orlando Int Airport? What is the driving distances to Disney between the two? Other than drivetime to Disney...any other + or - between the two airports? I can get skymiles flights into Tampa but not Orlando and was trying to weigh my options between paying cash or using skymiles...BTW..I plan on renting a car flying into either location...

I also read about construction on I4...is it really that bad and does it appear that it will last into summer?

I have flown into Tampa when the rates were less than MCO. It is a easy ride on I 4. Takes about 1 hour. It seemed to me car rental was a little less at Tampa. If you can save $$, I see no reason not to fly into Tampa.

I keep reading about this easy drive.... I have driven the I-4 between Tampa and Orlando several times this winter. It is NOT easy. First there is a major construction project in Tampa which means it takes quite a while just to get on i-4 (I averaged 30 minutes on that strech). Then they have started a major construction project on I-4 going into Orlando. Last week it took me 2 hours from the Tampa airport to the first Disney exit. My normal time is about 1.5 hours. I would say the construction will last quite a while. You might try googleing the Florida Department of Transporation and see.

I am not saying don't do it, just make sure your savings are worth it.

By the way, on a map it about 70 miles.

While there is construction and it has been going on for a long while now.....during our Christmas trip I found I had no problems...I made the round trip 3 times with an average of 70 mins from tampa airports....But I would imagine the times that you land would also be a factor..

I also understand you have a lead foot!! LOL! I read the trip report.

If you can start at St. Petersburg you are actually in better shape. That way you miss the downtown Tampa construction mess.

The other reason it took 2 hours I think was the holiday traffic, but I did the drive at Christmas and the construction has gotten worse not better. I was doing it from downtown Tampa in about 75 to 90 minutes.

I just want to know one thing..... Why do road crews have to tear up 50 miles at once and then only work on the first 10 for the next two years??? I know there is not an explanation.

Has anyone driven from tampa airport lately to Disney we are makeing the drive Apr 8th at about 1pm is the constuction slowing things down alot should I allow about 2 hours to get to disney.
