Fly into Orlando or Daytona Beach?

Hello,
Currently I can save about $400.00 in airfare costs by flying into Daytona Beach instead of Orlando. Has anyone done this? How long of a drive from Daytona to WDW?

Thanks

It would be a very easy drive from Daytona to WDW. I believe we made the drive in about an hour & 15 min. This was not during any rush hour time. To save $400 I'd sure do it!

You might want to try asking on the Transportation board to see what responses you could get there.

Have fun!

Daytona is any easy ride from WDW, just a little over an hour. Considering Orlando Airport is about 1/2 hour to WDW, there really isn't much differrence. For $400 savings, it's worth it!:D

We always stay at disney when attending the Daytona 500 Race. It is an easy drive. Save the $400!

I found a Northwest flight from Cleveland for $126 round trip. Right now, the same flight is going for $119 round trip from Cleveland to Orlando with a stop in Memphis....check it out.

Daytona airport is actually pretty nice for a 'small' airport. And as several people have said it is not paricularly far from WDW.

However you will be going south on I-4 to get to WDW from Daytona and you have to go straight through the center of Orlando.

For sanity sake I recommend timing you flight arrival/departure so that you won't be going through Orlando during Rush Hour (either the morning or the afternoon since you have to go all the way through either one will get you). Orlando has a serious rush hour (well at least it's really bad for us Country Mice from Mobile) and it will definitely crimp 'the magic' if you have to drive for an extra hour because of it.

If you avoid Rush Hour it will take about an hour and 15 minutes as someone said earlier. I-4 is a nice wide 70mph interstate all the way - you do have to slow down in Orlando, but there aren't any tricky turns or other silliness - it's just a straight shot to 'The World'!

Have Fun!

I have flown into Daytona Beach and really like the airport. It has a nice selection of car rental companies (all are onsite.) and is a nice quiet airport to fly into instead of busy Orlando. Baggage claim is low-key instead of the madhouse at Orlando. The drive is surprisingly short (I can do it in a little over an hour under optimum conditions.) I would definately choose this airport over Orlando if the price were the same and certainly if the price was lower.

One note: I believe in mid-2002 major reconstruction of I-4 will begin N. of Orlando which will greatly affect travel times between Daytona and Orlando. The construction will last for at least five years.

Daytona airport is really a nice place to land. If you have any race fans you can stop at the race track. Or spend the night at the Beach. From the airport go straight on Speedway Bl. to
I-95 then to I-4 right to Orlando. Now if you get in around 3:30pm the traffic around Sanford and the city of Orlando on I-4 is really BAD. So you might think about taking I-95 all the way to Rt.528 (Bee line) then get on I-4 from there. Its still a nice drive. And there are rest stops along the way.Have a nice and safety trip.http://www.Yourride.net

There's only one thing I want to point out.

If your flight into or out of Daytona is cancelled for any number of reasons, there are a lot less carriers flying a lot less flights into and out of that airport, making it much more difficult to accomodate you.

That said, I don't take my own advice, and use Fort Lauderdale rather than Miami as much as possible.
