Fly Free Sept. 11 on Spirit Air

....Reservations must be completed on-line at www.spiritair.com with a major credit card and/or through travel agents. Bookings may be made effective August 7, 2002 at 8:00 a.m. through September 8, 2002 or at such time when all 13,000 + seats have been filled, whichever comes first.

My husband and I ar flying to Myrtle Beach for the day for free. We leave Detroit in the morning and come back in the evening. It will be an anniversary day for us so we are excited. Tried for Florida to go to Disney but the time between free flights was to short. I guess people take day trips to Myrtle beach to golf so the flights are placed farther apart.

I can't get the site to work. I guess its too busy. Anybody know if theres a limit on tickets (theres 6 in my family)

The limit was 4. I had to call to book because my credit cards would not work for a charge of zero dollars.

I can't access this site, so much traffic must have knocked it out :(

Again.,.I just missed something. I just tried to get the free tickets on Spirit Air and I was sooooo close!..lol...oh well...I could have gone without a problem and come back..but I would have had to leave my DH there!..lol All they had left were one ways and returns the next day. But I think I'll keep him. Glad for those of you that got a free ride! ENJOY!

You cannot connect on the web, nor will they
take your phone call due to high call volume.
You just get a message saying that.

But does the site being down mean they're comnpletely sold out? What is their phone #? Are there and travel agents that could book it?

They are completely booked for 9/11. I called SpiritAir at around 5pm and got a message saying so.

I finally got through to their website and got this message:

The Spirit of freedom program has been an overwhelming success.

There are no more seats available for travel on September 11th.

We thank you for your participation and for your patience

Let me see if I can understand the thinking of my fellow Americans.

We all seem to agree that what happened on 9-11-01 changed the way we viewed the world and our place in the word, correct?

We all agree that it should be marked tastefully to the memory of all those who lost their lives that day, correct?

But, oh well, if I can get something for free because of that devastation, "count me in!"

Am I the only person that finds this promotion to be incredibly insensitive?

I'm not sure. The CEO made a statement that he thought the skies should be full of American's on Sept. 11 (makes sense) and he wanted a way to thank people for continuing to fly with them after Sept. 11. I don't think they are gaining too much from this, I haven't seen any interviews, and it seemed to me pretty low key (as low key as free flights can be) And they will be losing MILLIONS that day. (especially after all those people see how many seats Spirit crams into their planes and refuse to fly them again LOL)

I don't know, I personally see it as an "In your face" thing than taking advantage of a situation. As for the people taking the flights, I don't think it's a bad thing they are flying on Sept 11 or flying free.

And as far as changing things, I think an airlines CEO who gives away airfare is pretty out there! ;)

Taking advantage would be showing images of 9/11 and overlaying them with Spirit Air deals.

What they are doing is a nice hand me out. As someone who was at the WTC on 9/11 and had to live through it, I really dont see this as anything more then something nice for the public and a show of pride.

Regarding the Spirit Airlines free tickets: when inevitably seats open up when people don't show up (there are always no shows when people pay hundreds of dollars, there will certainly be no shows since people got the tickets for free) are those newly openned seats also free? Has anyone heard of how Spirit Airlines plans to handle a "waiting list" of such?
