To all DISer's will you be getting a FLU SHOT this year?

YES, most definitely.

NO, I never do.

I would like to hear from all DISer's on the Flu Shot. Do you think we should get it? Do you think it is totally amazing? OR Do you think it is totally unnecessary?

Also, would you mind stating your age?

UPDATE PAGE 4 POST 59!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :yay: :dance3: :yay:

Nope. I'm 25 and I haven't recently had the need for one. I would find an all purpose one time shot for allergies more useful for my personal health.

Nope. The one time I got it in college, I became deathly ill. I'm 37 and rarely get sick.

Nope. Never got one growing up, and hardly ever got sick. And if I did get sick, I just stayed in bed a couple of days till it went away.
My son got a flu shot once, and boy oh boy did he get sick. Since then he has never gotten another, and he has not gotten that sick again.

YES, I work in a hospital and am exposed to lots of wicked stuff.

Both DDs and I got 1 about a month ago DDs go back tomorrow for the 2nd dose- we haven't done it before but we will be having a new baby right at the end of the year, and wanted to do it mostly because of that.

38 - and started getting them 3 years ago.

Yes and I am 30. I volunteer with a local Rescue Squad so I come in contact with people who don't take the shot and get the flu and then call 911 so they can go to the hospital. My hubby and both of my kids who are 7 and 9 have also had the shot.

Yes, I got mine last week - after having terrible strep throat twice in the past month, I don't want to risk getting sick any more and it's not even winter yet!! My dr told me that the flu shot will NOT give you the flu as it was previously rumored.

I used to be in the "No" column until this year. But this year I have had some health issues and my Dr. said he really wanted me to get it so I gave in. I have to say that this is one painful shot. Well, not the shot itself, but afterward. For 3 days my arm was so sore and aching that I really could not move it very well. But I guess it is a small price to pay if it keeps me healthy.

Yes, I got one, but only because it was free at work. If I had to go seek it out and pay for it, I probably wouldn't have. I'm 32.

Yes I have already gotten mine and I will be 33 tomorrow. The reason I got mine is because I work with children.

I work in a hospital so I can get it for free but I always pass. Save my dose for those who really need it.

I got it. I'm 20 and in college. I live in the dorms. I have a really bad history with colds (they're usually far worse in me than in the person that gave them to me), so we don't really want to see what a flu would do to me. Add in how fast germs travel in the dorms, and it's a no brainer for me to get the flu shot

I did but my kids didn't. I had outpatient surgery and didn't want to risk getting sick before or becuase of the germs in the hospital. My kids always got them until our ped stopped giving them. It's a lame excuse but they had two clinics for the entire county and I couldn't fathom dealing with the mob scene. The county provided free flu shots to all the elementary school kids - won't you know mine are in middle school.

Yes. My elderly mother lives with DH & I so we all got the flu shot. The years it was scarse, I didn't get the shot, but she did.

Nope, I have enough allergies, just my luck, I'll have a reaction to the shot.

Yes-- l used to say the same thing I never get sick so I don't need one. Last year I got one. When I got a cold it went away ever fast. I have already had two real bad colds already.

The flu shot should not hurt....the only shot I ever got that hurt the next day is a tetnus shot. Both my husband and I were surprised that we hardly felt it.
