Flowers sent to Funeral home during holidays~HELP

Ok, I need to send flowers for my Great Aunt who passed away over the weekend. Is it appropriate to send a Poinsettia or a holiday colored flower basket? I know the flowers either get pitched out or family takes them after the funeral. I was hoping by sending a poinsettia or something like that, the family would be able to take it with them. Help!!!!!!!!!

One of my aunts died at Christmas, and the only thing the flower shop had was poinsettias. It was nice because everyone took them home afterwards, unlike the cut arrangements that just get thrown away.

And no one was offended by the poinsettias.

At my grandfather's funeral, there were lots of arrangements, including poinsettas and plants. We ended up leaving one arrangement at the cemetary, a couple at the church, and the rest came home to my Aunt's house. The people who lived in town took the plants and poinsettas home with them.

When my grandmother died, my uncle took a plant home, and still has it at his home, 8 years later.

I think it is a really nice idea to send something that will last.

If you need suggestions, the funeral home can give you some names of florists in the area.

I just sent a white poinsettia to the funeral home for an elderly friend who passed away on Saturday. At least the family can take it home and enjoy it for Christmas.

It's probably too late but why not send a donation to a charity in your aunt's name instead. Flowers for a funeral seem like such a waste of money to me personally. Most funerals I have attended all do the same thing after words, "what do we do with all the flowers now?"

My dad died in mid-December, and we got some beautiful holiday flower arrangements.

When my father passed away last Dec. people sent plants and poinsettas as well as flowers. We took some home and had the funeral home send the rest to the local VA hospital. We know they received them because they sent a letter thanking us.

My mom died in December 1993 and one of the arrangements we got was a holiday one with pine cuttings. It smelled great.
