Flowers, Segways & DIS Meets, Oh My! - Updated 10/26, Final Thoughts-FINALLY!

:sad1:  I'm sorry Michelle...that really, really stinks. I'm glad you are back and hoping for that cruise for you! Maybe Don would like them because it's not at all theme park? Have you guys cruised before (non-Disney)?

I also like that Girls Trip idea! Maybe another DISLadies trip could be formed at some point! :goodvibes

Well, here I said I was back and then I disappear again for a week! This had nothing to do with Disney depression however, I've just been crazy busy - stupid real life getting in the way of my DIS time! I was getting close to being caught up on everyone's TRs too and now I'm super behind again!

I'm sorry hubby won't bend. What about a "girls" trip? In any event, we will be here for your wrap up whenever you get to it, as well as be here "keeping our fingers" crossed" for a cruise next summer.

Yes, I started my TR and it is linked.

I have absolutely no problem going without DH, his grumpy butt can stay at home! Problem comes in when we start talking about budget. :sad2: There is only so much money available for entertainment and the boys sports take a huge chunk of that. I could go to Disney without Don and just take the boys but that would eat up our family vacation money and asking Don to skip a vacation really isn't fair, he works awfully hard and deserves a vacation too. I think if we lived closer and I could drive down instead of fly things might be different. It's just something I'm going to have to deal with, right now I'm getting pretty excited about the cruise idea!

I totally understand being depressed about no Disney trip on the horizon. Lots of pixie dust for a Disney cruise! That would be so much fun! :wizard:

I'm starting to get really excited about the cruise. We sat down and talked about it again the other night and I really think it's going to happen. The plan is to drive, making stops along the way in Nashville, Atlanta and Savannah before making our way to Port Canaveral. After the cruise we'd spend a day at the Kennedy Space Center before driving home. Driving home wouldn't be as much fun since we wouldn't be stopping to enjoy anything, but the rest of the trip has me pretty pumped! I told Don we had to decide soon though, summer cruises are booking up fast. I may just book so that we've got it covered if we do decide to go....... :rolleyes1

I totally understand about you needing a DIS break. I know it must be hard to not have your next trip planned and be up in the air. I wish you could go on our May girls trip (same time this year as last year), but a future Disney cruise sounds wonderful!!!!!

When you feel like reading some new TR's stop on over and say "hi". I started my Sept TR....see link at bottom of page.

ps...I hope you do post your final thoughts! I really enjoyed your TR!

I wish I could go on your May girls trip too! I know it would be a blast!

I subscribed to your TR but haven't had a chance to catch up yet, I'll be there soon, I promise!

Fingers are crossed that you get to take your cruise! :goodvibes

I'm so glad you're back and I really hope you write your final wrap up!

Odds on the cruise are improving everyday!

Hey, since you've been on several I have a question for you. I'm a little nervous about getting motion sickness so I'm wondering what deck would be best for me. Is it better to be on one of the higher decks?

A girls' trip was my first thought, too. They are rockin' awesome!!! :dance3:

That would be so much fun! Maybe I'll be able to sneak one in at some point, we'll just have to see what happens funds wise over the next couple of years. I just had to buy a new car so that really eats into my disposable income!

:sad1:  I'm sorry Michelle...that really, really stinks. I'm glad you are back and hoping for that cruise for you! Maybe Don would like them because it's not at all theme park? Have you guys cruised before (non-Disney)?

It does really, really stink! I so wish my grump could be more like your Joe! But, he isn't, and he's wonderful in so many other ways that I feel guilty complaining about him. I do think Don would like the cruise and if I can convince him that we can afford this trip he's all for it - keep your fingers crossed for me!

Aww, that stinks about no Disney trip. :guilty: But a cruise sounds like a lot of fun too. I'd love to do a cruise (well, really a Disney one...:rolleyes1).

I totally understand how you feel. The cruise and the getting there sounds really fun.

I hope to see you over on my TR when you are caught up.

Your plans for the trip do sound like a lot of fun! If you need any help with ideas about things to do in Atlanta, let me know! :goodvibes

Hey, since you've been on several I have a question for you. I'm a little nervous about getting motion sickness so I'm wondering what deck would be best for me. Is it better to be on one of the higher decks?

Hey Michelle! The key is being in the middle (front to back wise)...you definitely do not want to be too far forward or too far back if you're prone to motion sickness. Chris gets REALLY motion sick, but prefers to be up higher. Generally speaking, it's been said that there is more stability the lower and closer to the middle that you are. With that being said, Chris gets REALLY motion sick, but prefers to be up higher. :confused3 It seems to help him. We generally prefer deck 10 or 11. You also may want to give SERIOUS consideration to getting a balcony room, if you were not thinking of one already. The fresh air alone does wonders. If you don't get a balcony, make sure to get a room with a window so that you can see the horizon. While the inside rooms are fine, they are not so great for people with motion sickness (this is from Chris). Have you thought about taking something to prevent motion sickness? Chris takes Bonine every morning that is a SEA DAY. One of our "Navy friends" also suggests taking an aspirin or two with the Bonine...haven't tried that yet, but haven't needed to! :thumbsup2 When Chris has taken something to prevent his sickness, he hasn't had ANY problems. On occasion, he has gotten sick at times when he forgot to take the Bonine. Some people also take ginger pills...

Sorry for my novel! Hope I was able to help! Please let me know if you have any other questions...I'd be happy to help! We've been on 9 cruises so far with 4 different lines, so I should be able to answer many of the questions that you come up with!

All caught up again!

I hear you on those conversations with the grumpy DH. YAY for the cruise.

I know, I'm totally not into going on a cruise unless it's a Disney one!

I totally understand how you feel. The cruise and the getting there sounds really fun.

I hope to see you over on my TR when you are caught up.

I think the cruise will be a blast! I need to have another conversation with Don, but I'm hoping I'll have a cruise ticker in my siggy within the next week or so......

Your plans for the trip do sound like a lot of fun! If you need any help with ideas about things to do in Atlanta, let me know! :goodvibes

Thanks Jackie, I might just need your help! We won't be there long, probably the 2nd half of one day and the 1st half of the next and I know we will have to hit up a Braves game. Don has been a Braves fan since he was a little kid, no real connection to Atlanta or anything, I guess they were just always on TV when he was younger and they became 'his' team. His one request was that we try to schedule our stop there when they would have a home game.

I think the World of Coke looks like fun, have you ever been there?

Thanks Lynne! I'm glad you wrote a novel, I'll take all the info I can get!

I take Bonine everyday when I'm at WDW, it allows me to ride almost all of the rides (nothing helps on Mission Space, Star Tours or the Tea Cups though!), so I'm a big fan of it already! I'll probably ask my doctor for those patches too. I told Don from the beginning that I wanted to spend the extra money for a room with a balcony, I agree with Chris that fresh air is a must! I didn't know about the middle of the ship thing though, I'll have to make sure we don't get a room too far forward or back. Can you pick your actual room when making the reservation, kind of like choosing your seat on an airplane, or do I just request it and hope that's what we get?

All caught up again!

I hear you on those conversations with the grumpy DH. YAY for the cruise.

Those rotten grumpy DHs!

I really need to wrap this baby up, I just hate to be DONE, kwim????

Have just finished reading your TR and it's great...thanks for sharing. Feels like I was there with you and your mum :)
Hopefully you will get to go on the disney cruise.
Am hoping to visit October 2011 but am still trying to convince my partner that it is a good idea lol.

Hey Michelle!

Great to hear you've already experienced Bonine! :thumbsup2 Chris won't do ANY of those rides you mentioned either, but is a huge fan of cruising! :goodvibes

We haven't cruised with Disney yet, but with the 4 other lines we've been on, we were able to select our room, based on the availability. If you aren't able to select your room, I would DEFINITELY put in a request. Being in the middle does help! YAY for wanting a balcony room. It's said that once you go balcony, you never go back! Chris and I can back that up! ;) It is so nice to have the fresh air!!! :woohoo:

Seeing a Braves game would be a lot of fun! You and the boys would like it, too. You can't beat doing the Tomahawk Chop with a bunch of other Braves fans! :goodvibes

I have been to the World of Coke, and it is a great way to spend half a day. It's easy to get to, and there is a big parking deck which is always nice. Several things to do there, and at the end, you get a souvenir bottle of Coke. There is a tasting room like at Epcot complete with Beverly. LOL!

I LOVE THIS! :yay:

Kennedy Space Center is a lot of fun! I think your drive down and stopping along the way plans sound wonderful. A bit of everything for everyone - kinda like CA was.

If you wrap this up, then you'll have to just start a PTR. ::yes::

Thank you so much for reading!

I hope you get your October trip, October is a great time to visit! It's still warm enough to swim but not miserable hot like it is in the summertime, the fall decorations are great AND you have the Food & Wine Festival - what more could you ask for!

Hey Michelle!

Great to hear you've already experienced Bonine! :thumbsup2 Chris won't do ANY of those rides you mentioned either, but is a huge fan of cruising! :goodvibes

One of my friends that just went on a cruise a few months ago told me the same thing - get the balcony! She said she spent every morning out there having her coffee and then at night she would sit out there and have a glass of wine before bed :cloud9:

Seeing a Braves game would be a lot of fun! You and the boys would like it, too. You can't beat doing the Tomahawk Chop with a bunch of other Braves fans! :goodvibes

See I could get a little bit of Disney without even going anywhere near Epcot, even more of a reason to check out World of Coke! I doubt I could trick the kids into trying Beverly again, but Don hasn't experienced it yet :rolleyes1

Yay for cruising!!! I hope it pans out Michelle. You deserve a vaca!! :)

I really think it's going to - I'm getting so excited!

Your trip to the Kennedy Space Center convinced me that we definitely needed to go sometime! I think we have a good balance in these plans too.

I've been spending some time over on the cruise board, my goal was to do some research, but I got sidetracked by the door magnets - oh my gosh! So much cute stuff, I can see them becoming very addicting!

I NEED to wrap this up, and I will.....soon  Not sure if I'll start a PTR right away or not, I don't know if I could keep one going for 9 months! I really want to add a ticker to my siggy, but hate to do it until we actually have the cruise booked, and I'm holding off on booking because we have to put 20% down - it's hard to drop $1,000 right before Christmas!

Well so I just missed all this action over here! BUT let me say the room with the balcony is nice, and if you can get one go for it! We just get the window, but our first cruise, 7 day WC, we had the balcony -- HOW nice!!! :goodvibes
I agree about mid ship, and higher deck if possible, b/c if you go too low, you end up beholden to the elevators.. SOOO much fun! When and which cruise are you thinking about??!! They are expensive, but worth it, IMO... we just paid off our short cruise over President's day!!

Are you looking at The Dream???

I just spent the evening catching up on your TR, Michelle!! I really enjoyed reading about your wonderful trip with your mom! I hate that it's coming to an end! What wonderful memories you've made!! :goodvibes

Hey there HD! I know - so much drama in my house when it comes to planning vacations.

The cruise we are looking at is the 5 night, on the Dream w/ 2 stops at Castaway Cay. It leaves on August 2nd. BUT, Don and I sat down yesterday and just listed all of the things we wanted to do at all of our road trip stops and priced everything out - all I can say is :scared1: This morning I came up with a few different options for us, one of which is changing the cruise to a 4 night that leaves on June 3rd. We'll see what I can work out!

Hey Becky! I bet you've been a reading fool the last few days trying to catch up on everyone's reports!

Mom and I did have a really great time. I enjoy traveling with her and I'm so glad we took the opportunity to do it. :goodvibes

UGH! Yeah, I remember that you are adding in that road trip, that can definitely rack up the costs! If changing room categories help, don't forget to consider that, too... we really didn't spend much time in our staterooms, and you can always get your coffee and head out to a deck with a steamer chair!!!

the four day cruise is what we are going on in Feb... and the 5 day with two CC stops is our June cruise... and room categories change... that is, the website will be updated frequently b/c they will start making room by upgrading people, and, people who "make a reservation" the can be held with no $ down for a few days, so those expire... You can probably find a deal... :thumbsup2 looking forward to whatever you decide. AND yes, bonine is the best plan. I think you will find that is all you need.

Hey Michelle....I am crossing my fingers for you that you can work magic and do whatever you need to do to get Don to sign off on that cruise next year. Too bad there wasn't a really good promotional deal that was super time-limited that you wanted to get in on, by which point you wld be reserved and locked-in.;)

Trust me...I completely understand what you are going through with the resistant husband. I used to think it wld be great if our whole families could meet up on vacation sometime as Don and Chris wld have just as much in common with one another as their wives do! However, the more I think about it, they would just be very bad influences on one another!:rotfl: So let's keep our meet-ups to just us women, like we did in May!;)

It is so hard when you live to go to Disney (like us), and in addition to all of the family budget rationalizations and compromises you also have to fight a battle with a spouse who doesn't want to go. I completely feel your pain on this one!!!:sad2:
