Flowers and Star Wars and Harry, oh my! TR started, link inside!

Have you all seen the itineraries released by Disney Cruise Line for 2012? The Hawaii cruise is so tempting! Few problems, they are only having one sailing and it is at the end of April. It is a 15 night cruise and combine that with the high demand I am sure it is going to be pricey! I really want to go to Hawaii though and this cruise would probably end up being cheaper than flying there and staying at a resort... The problem with the date is that it is in April, school exams run in April, the chances of my exams being done by then are really high but you never know... I'm thinking about just putting a deposit down on Friday when booking opens to hold a place and secure the "cheapest" price and then making a real decision later... Of course I haven't even talked with Mom about this yet, she will probably read this in the morning before I even see her, I don't even know if she has any desire to go to Hawaii

The Hawaii cruise sounds amazing. DH has said no more Disney trips for a few years b/c the next trip he wants to take is to Hawaii. Perfect solution, isn't it. He gets Hawaii and I get Disney.

I don't even want to know how much it costs though. That will crush my dream way too quickly. Maybe 2013.

:surfweb::surfweb::surfweb::surfweb: I was looking at this last night, a cruise would interest me, as for cost, I'm not sure. We can talk on the weekend. Can dummy dates be moved from one ship to another?

Only 34 more days and only 21 more days of work!!

Oh the Hawaii cruise sounds wonderful!!

I need to go back and catch up some more but a Hawaiian crusie sounds amazing.

Doesn't it?! :cloud9:

 Those who were able to book today are quoting $1800 pp for an inside cabin. This is for a 15 night cruise, if you were to split that in half and picture that it were a regular length cruise it would be $900 for a 7 night cruise and that is actually pretty decent.

Yes, you can switch the money to a different sailing if we change out minds.

Really? WOW:thumbsup2, that is a deal, and if we could only book the flights now at the Oct air fare, that would be a SWEET DEAL:yay:

Those prices do sound really reasonable. Let's see 2012, Landon will be 2. Probably not old enough. I hope you all get to go, though. I'd love to read a TR of a Disney Hawaiian cruise. :goodvibes

A Hawaiian cruise sounds heavenly. My dh won't fly and he promised me a hawaiian cruise someday as long as we can drive to the port. However, we will have to wait until the kids are out of the house!

I hope so too! If the prices are reasonable I will put down a deposit. We wouldn't be able to book flights until much closer to the date though. Booking the cruise is a gamble. My exam period ends April 30th, the cruise leaves on April 29th. The 29th is a Saturday and it is very likely that I will be done exams by then but you never know! We would have until mid-Feb to cancel/switch to a different cruise with no penalty, so hopefully my exam schedule would be released by then. If it is not then I guess we would have to cancel since we would have to have paid in full by then and no refunds after that point.

I had a friend who got hired last fall to work on a cruise ship out of Hawaii. Unfortunately, due to the shoes she was required to wear she developed severe pain in her feet (she already had some health issues...I think she had some form of arthritis as a kid). She wound up quitting during her probationary period. Once home it was discovered that she had a tumor in the ball of her foot :scared1: she has had it removed and is doing better. Since she quit during her probationary period it was better for her record with the cruise line than if she had stayed, tried to suffer through the pain, and missed shifts. I don't know if shes going to try to get on the ship again eventually, or if that was an adventure she can cross off her bucket list. I do know she was disappointed in how clique-y the current staff was, and that the job she was told she was going to have when she was testing, isn't what was available once she arrived. It sounds like the life of the cruise staff isn't as glamourous as it sounds.

No Hawaii cruise for us. When I logged on this morning I was all set to book an oceanview room but when I went to click the "Book It" button, poof, all the rooms were gone despite being available minutes before that. All that is left is suites and you don't even want to know how much those are going for. Oh well, guess it was not meant to be.

Boo! :sad1: Sorry it didn't work out. Maybe something will open up??

i bet alot were booked up by travel agents that could do it ahead of time for clients.

No, they all got booked by people on the phone/online. When I went on the website and started the booking process there were a whole slew of rooms available. So I had selected a room and clicked the button to put down the deposit but b/c I took so long (5 minutes) choosing the room I wanted they were all taken. That is how fast they were selling. At 8:45 when I logged on all categories of rooms were available and the lowest price was $4480. Ten minutes later when I pushed the book it button everything was gone except the suites and they were going for over $10000! Lesson learned, if you want to book an in demand cruise preselect the room you want so you don't waste time waffling around otherwise you will lose the cruise completely!

Too bad you couldn't book the cruise. I would have loved to see your pictures:thumbsup2

I can't believe the few minutes makes such a difference. There have been times where I have gone to make an ADR and something happens were my computer freezes and then, once it comes back the time is gone. That makes me mad enough, I can't imagine losing a cruise to Hawaii that way.

Gosh that sucks about the cruise. You'd think Disney would've realized how popular that type of cruise would've been. But wow, over $10,000 for a suite. Crazy!

I couldn't believe it either. I went from having dozens of rooms in the category I wanted to absolutely nothing!

Now I have to think of something else to do for vacation next year.

Back to back cruises on the Fantasy doing the Eastern and Western Caribbean?

Do one of those cruises above and then rent a car and drive to the Keys.

Road trip to the East Coast of Canada and Maine? This could start off by driving to Stowe, Vermont, then drive through Maine up to New Brunswick, visit the Bay of Fundy area, tour Prince Edward Island, visit Halifax and then drive back through Canada with a stop in Quebec City.

Washington DC, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach.

Hmmm, lots of options. Or we could just take the summer off and save our money for a big trip to somewhere in Europe!

Well, maybe, seeing as how this cruise sold out in less than two days (first day only platinum castaway members could book), they will offer the cruise again in future years with more dates!

That happens with all of the longer cruises. For example the Westbound Trans Atlantic cruises in 2007 sold out in a day. The Eastbound Panama Canal in 2008 sold out in a day as well. For both of those prices fluctuated by the minute. A good way to book one of those is to use a TA as they can do multiple bookings at a time with only one phone call. I know that some people don't like to use them as they will "lose control" of there reservation but if you have a good TA then you really shouldn't worry about that. Yes you will have to deal with them if you wan't to make any changes or make payments but if they are a good one they there should never be a problem doing that.

Also another reason that the longer cruise sell out faster is because there are less cabin available on the classic ships (Magic/ Wonder) as they turn a bunch of the inside state rooms into pantries for supplies. At least they did for the Westbound Trans Atlantic cruise, as the ship can only hold enough supplies for 7 days and with 6 days at sea before reaching Castaway Cay they needed to be prepared.

Too bad about the cruise. That would have been fun. But I guess there's plenty of other great vacations out there. :thumbsup2
