I know you Northerners do it differently so I was just curious about my fellow Floridian's dealing with this unusual cold.

What temperature do you heat your homes to?

Ours is set to 71degrees to take the chill off first thing in the morning and then other than that we keep it set around 64 and it generally falls to about 67 or 68 inside lately...if we get chilly we bump it up but mostly we're just wearing heavier clothes

All my friends and neighbors think we're crazy and are heating to 74 or 72.

So I was just curious what most of you do

I'm currently heating to 70. We have it at 66 at night and my kids have been complaining it is cold. I think we turned the upstairs thermostat to 69 or 70.

Last month I was in Chicago and my mom's furnace was set around 68 and we were all comfortable.

The difference is the inefficient heat pump.

My DD just came up to say hi and her hands were freezing so I think I'm going to turn things up a bit.

We actually haven't bothered turning the heat on, we just grabbed out our old sweatshirts instead. It's still fairly warm in here, and we do have a space heater in the bedroom set to 70 for the animals.

Ours is at 70, which is the same as always. The furnace just has to run more to maintain that.

71 here in Northwest Florida.

As cold as it has been lately, the heat pump has been pumping its little heart out. At times, the auxiliary heat strips have come on, but when they do, I set the t-stat down a degree so they turn back off.

We've had a fire in the fireplace most of the time this weekend, so our heat has only run during the night.

Yesterday's high was 37, low was 21. Think it got up to 41 today. Very pretty day here...just dang cold....with a bitter north wind.

71 here. I'd let it go lower, but DH's teeth start chattering.

I didn't realize (we've been down here two years) how inefficient the insulation is down here until this cold snap - I can feel the cold straight through the windows. It's made our living room uncomfortable because one whole wall is windows/sliding doors.

I'm NOT looking forward to the power bill for this month!

yikes - ours isn't working ~~~~~~~~!!! we have four space heaters set up, which are keeping us toasty! One more week, then hopefully this is gone!

Mine quit working 2days ago.Space heaters and oven for now.Its gonna be 18degrees tonight..

We set it to about 67 at night. The first one up in the morning will set it to 71 and then we lower it back to 67 after everyone is awake and dressed warmly.

I noticed the same thing about feeling the cold even a foot away from our windows...do you think it does the same thing when it's hot out and we just don't feel it the same way we do the cold? Probably! That's why our A/C runs all the time I bet!

You don't have your heat on at all? Ours is set right now at 66 and it keeps kicking on and running, I can't imagine how cold it would be in here without the heat running.

We have it set @ 64 to sleep & between 66 & 68 during the day - depends on if we're just sitting around watching tv or cleaning as to what it gets bumped to - I tend to bump it up & down quite a bit

I'd love to have a space heater next to the bed. It gets sooo cold in here. Kari refuses to turn the heat on, and the thermostat has been reading low 60's, but it's also in a dark corner away from windows and such. So the living room feels much cooler than over there. (reverse in the summer time too)

I kick it on to like 70 at night when she's not home, then shut it off before she walks in. This morning I woke up an hour early, so I kicked it on to get the chill out so when I got dressed it wouldn't be so horrible. Then shut it off when I left.

But it's been running almost non stop, and i'm still freezing cold bundled up.

We're just not used to the cold, and since it only happens one or two weeks a year, our bodies don't adjust well like northerners. I remember when I went to Canada and the avaerage day was like -20C, the house temp was set at 60F and that felt plenty warm. Now at 60 I'm bundled up in layers and jackets.

During the day, 70. At night, 60. We have heated blankets in every room of the house.

Boy did that heat run this morning!

It feels freezing in here now, just checked, temp in the house is 68. I'm trying not to bump up the thermostat. We're about to eat some Chili for dinner so hopefully a nice warm meal will warm us all up!
