I'm not planning on taking my daughters car seat with us this time, but now I'm wondering about the laws in Florida.

She is 5 years old,and she does use a big-kids booster seat here, but by law, she'd be legal here in New York with just a seat belt.

We are staying on-site, using the buses, so the only time we'll be in the rental car is to and from the airport, and maybe a few quick trips to the grocery store. I really really don't want to cart her big booster seat down there for those few times.

Anyway, I'm just interested in the seat belt law for children, if anyone knows it.

Thanks.

www.myflorida.com - has the seat belt law, IIRC children 4 and up aren not required to be in a CSR.

I am sure your well aware of the recommendations for older children as your using a booster at home but you are not required to use one in Florida. FYI, I bought a low back cosco booster ($15.00) for travel.

Have a great trip!

from the website:

All children under 5 years of age or younger must be properly restrained no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle. Children through age 3 must be secured in a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer's integrated child safety seat. For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt may be used. (FL Statute 316.613).

edited to fix the link

I was researching this the other day (not wanting to carry a car seat from England!!) and I'm sure I read somewhere that you can borrow booster seats from some of the hotel in the same way as you can wheelchairs etc.

Might be worth investigating

Just a thought - but how old is your child? Will you be travelling to the resort by shuttle bus or car? If you are travelling by car and your child is under age 4 you will need your car seat before you get to your resort.

She'll be 2 whilst we're in Florida!!

Luckily we will be travelling to the hotel by bus but thanks for thinking to check!
