Florida Resident weekday annual pass - question

I'll be heading up to Universal later this month. I plan on purchasing the Florida Resident weekday annual pass. There is an option to purchase them online. If I purchase them online, does my year start from the day I purchase them, or does it not activate until I use it for the first time?

It starts the first time you go through the gates, not when you purchased the pass.
