Florida Resident Questions

Two questions:

We are taking an extended family trip to WDW next May and plan to stay on property. My sister and husband are Florida residents. Assuming there is a resident rate, could we book two rooms--one each under their names--and take advantage of the resident rate? (we'll have to pay the extra adult fees, of course)

Do resident rates usually cover suites, as well? Our other option is to book a suite with larger adult capacity.

Thanks!

Bump.

Anyone able to advise?

I can help you with part of your question.

Yes, your sister and (her?) husband can each book rooms in their own names and get the Florida resident discount. They will both have to be there to check in and provide their identification. They will have to "not" list each other on their reservations as guests. This is a side effect of the fact that you can only have one reservation in your name for a particular week. If your sister was to book a room and list her/your husband as a guest on that reservation, then he wouldn't be able to make a reservation during that same week in his name.

I was told this when I tried to book rooms at the Poly and the Beach Club for the same week in September, figuring I'd book both and cancel one a week later once I decided on which I wanted to keep. The CM/Agent told me that I could not do that, but that my girlfriend could book one of the resorts as long as she wasn't listed as a guest on my initial reservation, and as long as she didn't list me as a guest on her reservation.

We each booked a resort, and a week later cancelled the reservation that we didn't want. This was to make sure we had availability at each resort based on a discount that had just been issued and that was limited in the number of rooms covered by the discount in each resort.

The suite question I do not know the answer to as I've never tried to book a suite...

Edit: Thinking more about it, your sister or husband might be able to book two rooms under one reservation. I imagine some people need two rooms (connecting, etc) and I'd think that it's possible to book more than one room on one reservation at the same resort. I don't know this for fact, so maybe someone else can confirm. I just know that I was told that you can't have more than one reservation in one person's name during the same week. The difference being separate reservations vs. several rooms under one reservation.

Good luck.

I would think they could as well, playing with reservations and discounts Jan 2013 at one point I had 3 reservations for rooms under my name all for the same time period.
