We are moving to Florida in May. We wanted to get APs right away and looked on the site for what is needed for proof. We are going to rent and not own, do you think a copy of our signed lease would suffice? We won't be there long enough to get our first utility bill before we want to go to the parks and may not make it to the DMV in time. Thoughts??

The key is PHOTO ID looks like according to the sticky post #21 on link above yu are going to have to go to the DMV FWIW when you do you get the photo/license right then & there same day this could be an all day project depending on where

If you read all the way through you will see any state ID will work along with one of the other forms of proof.

I'm not seeing it :confused3 I'm seeing

1. There are only three allowable forms of ID for the buyer. These are a Florida Driver's License, a Florida State-issued ID card, or a military ID card with proof that the service member is stationed at a military base on Florida. If multiple passes are being purchased, the other Passholders may have any other acceptable form of Florida Resident documentation.

BUT hopefully OP will figure ut out or Cheshire Figment will come into the thread and straighten it out for them

Here is the current Validation Requirements for FL Resident Tickets:
Florida Resident Tickets:
Proof of a Florida residential address is required. For each adult ticket purchased, you may provide any of the following:
  • Valid Florida driver's license
  • Valid Florida state-issued ID card (must have a Florida address)
  • Valid Florida-based military ID
The persons who will use the Florida Resident adult tickets must be present at the time of ticket pick up. If you do not have one of the IDs indicated above, then for each adult ticket purchased you must provide one of the following dated within the last two months and evidencing a Florida residential address together with a corresponding picture ID (passport, driver's license, state identification card):
  • Monthly mortgage statement
  • Florida vehicle registration or title
  • Homeowner's insurance policy or bill
  • Automobile insurance policy or bill
  • Utility bill
  • Mail from a financial institution, including checking, savings, or investment account statement
  • Mail from a Federal, State, County or City government agency
Bills can be no more than two (2) months old. PO Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency. Current bills printed from electronic versions are acceptable, though photocopies and fax copies are not.

GUESTS WITHOUT ONE OF THE ABOVE
If a Guest does not have one of the IDs indicated above, then for each adult ticket purchased the Guest must provide one of the following, dated within the past two (2) months evidencing a Florida residential address together with a corresponding picture ID (passport, drivers license, state identification card):
  • Proof of Current Mortgage (Monthly mortgage statement not older than two months old; Deeds, Mortgage Contracts, Mortgage Payment Booklets and leases are not accepted.)

  • Mail from financial institutions, including checking, savings or investment account statements
  • Mail from Federal, State, County or City government agencies
None of the mail or bills can be more than two months old.

So ... your signed lease won't do it, I'm afraid.

I'm sure Disney will apprecate your eagerness to immediately buy your Florida Resident AP and visit the parks :yay:, but the onus is on you to provide what Disney is asking for. That means that you need to be sure you make it to the DMV in time. Or you need to be sure that you have a utility bill or mail from your Florida bank or something similar.

While standing in line at the DMV isn't the most exciting way to spend a day, you can make an appointment, which makes the process pretty speedy, and you'll walk out that day with your valid Florida driver's license. So ... just make the DMV your first stop when you arrive and Disney your second stop -- and you won't have any issues.

:earsboy:

FL use to require all new residents convert their drivers licence and car reggie in 10 days of establishing residency. At least that is how it was in 1991 when I moved here. Since you have to do it anyway, my thought would be to get that taken care of then go off and have fun at Disney. :thumbsup2

we moved here in 2008 I believe we had longer than 10 days, not be a debbie downer here OP but the first time you register a car in the state of FL they really slam you in the wallet..:scared1:.I remember there was a first time registrant fee or something like that, just want to prepare you maybe do a search for FL and find the official website for accurate financial info

On the UP side we love it here and I wouldn't go back to NY for anything I wish you much happiness in the new chapter of your lives :goodvibes

I just got my Florida AP as we're in the process of moving down as well. DH is already there and I'm back and forth between VT and FL. Yes, they still want you to register your cars and get your licenses within 10 days (which is crazy), so we just did it when I was down in February. Be warned, though, to register your car you need to have your automobile insurance done first in FL and to get your driver's license I had to have my passport and Social Security card in hand along with my VT license. Plus you need the vehicle you are registering there so they can go out and confirm the VIN and the odometer reading. We're way more chill up here in VT, so it was kind of new for us.

They didn't mess around, but I'm glad we did it because the VERY next day, I headed up to WDW to get my AP. If you go first thing in the morning to the DMV, you shouldn't have to wait too long, they were pretty efficient. Good luck with your move!!!

Thanks everyone. I'm moving down a few weeks before my husband and son and I plan to go to the DMV my first week. We just weren't sure what to do about DH proving his residence. We'll just have him get his license when he comes to visit so we don't hit any snags. Thanks for the warning on registering the vehicles. I'll have to hold off since I'm taking my husbands car down there and he's keeping mine here. So, we'll have to wait to register the vehicles until the actual owner is there.

Call ahead and make an appointment before going to get your Fla drivers license. If you have an appointment, you don't have to wait - you get in and get it done in no time. It would also be worth doing a search of the DMV website to make sure you have all the documentation you will need when you go. They have changed the requirements in the past few years - but I renewed by mail this year, so I won't have to deal with the documentation until next renewal (you're limited on when you can renew by mail and when you have to go in person).

I make an appointment for first thing in the morning and can usually take care of it on my way to work (without being late to work either). So be sure you make an appointment. They do the licenses on the spot - so you might even be able to do it on your way to WDW!

Where I live the car license tags and the drivers licenses are not done at the same office. They're about 3-4 miles apart. I believe in some areas they are in the same place though - so it all depends on where you live.

I can tell you that the Florida process for license and registration was WAY easier and done more quickly than here in PA. When we moved down there we made an appt. but it turned out to be a slow day and we were in and out without too much difficulty.
When we moved back here it took what seemed like forever and the validating paperwork was even more demanding than in FL. Nothing, it seems, is as simple as it used to be.

I concur with this one! If you are married or have changed your name for any reason have that documentation as well. I didn't know I needed my marriage license, and then when I went back it was the (fancy one your supposed to frame) it wasn't the official license needless to say I was in tears because that was the only license I had ever had....I didn't know it was easy to get what they wanted. We had our grandparents go to the office of records in NC and get a copy of the correct document.

Also check your birth certificate as older ones have issues, I'm not 100% sure on why they wouldn't take my Mother-in-law's Birth certificate but again her parents went to an office in NC and got one that they took.

Between the cars and licenses we went to the DMV 6 times (Just our experience as we didn't do research first):confused3

FWIW. - they are not currently taking appointments for regular drivers licenses right now.

I was there for about 5 hours and got there at 8:00. They are ****ting a bunch of them down.

If you are a married woman you will need:

Original birth certificate (with seal)
Marriage certificate
SSN or a W2
Copy of your lease
Mail from a financial institution or utility bill.

I changed our bank statement before leaving as we only get them via email anyway. That way I had a bank statement available to show for my license and to get my AP.

So looking at the requirements ....

Florida Resident Tickets:
Proof of a Florida residential address is required. For each adult ticket purchased, you may provide any of the following:
Valid Florida driver's license
Valid Florida state-issued ID card (must have a Florida address)
Valid Florida-based military ID
The persons who will use the Florida Resident adult tickets must be present at the time of ticket pick up. If you do not have one of the IDs indicated above, then for each adult ticket purchased you must provide one of the following dated within the last two months and evidencing a Florida residential address together with a corresponding picture ID (passport, driver's license, state identification card):
Monthly mortgage statement
Florida vehicle registration or title
Homeowner's insurance policy or bill
Automobile insurance policy or bill
Utility bill
Mail from a financial institution, including checking, savings, or investment account statement
Mail from a Federal, State, County or City government agency
Bills can be no more than two (2) months old. PO Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency. Current bills printed from electronic versions are acceptable, though photocopies and fax copies are not.

Does the mail from a financial institution (checking, savings, investment) need to be from a Florida bank?

I would say no since most major banks are not state specific. However, it must have been sent/received to your Florida address.

if you know what your address is going to be or whatever you could always change your bank mailing address to that address before your next statement issue.. if you have paperless billing on any bank account you can just print out the statement and use that as proof...

also be prepared to pay a lot in taxes the first time you register your car here, it isnt cheap.. but every year after that it is

Wow - that's a bummer about the appointments. Do one renewal by mail, and they change the whole system on you! I guess that means getting there at least a half hour before they open to get a good spot in line. It's not so busy out where I am, but when I used to renew in Orange County, those places were busy, and as a pp mentioned, they are closing or consolidating a lot of the offices, at least in Orange County (I saw it on the news last week), which makes the others busier.

It really is worth taking care of right away though, for more reasons than just the AP.
