So the forecast at the moment for the end of next week when we arrive is rain :confused3 and thunderstorms:confused3

Do these tend to be short bursts or go on for ages?

Will be typical if I leave the UK in sunshine and head off for rain (albeit warm rain)!

You can't know what it will be like, we went a couple of years back end of May, every day and had torrential rain for 4-5 hours late afternoon to early evening, not great but other times just a downpour and clears up. Hope you get good weather.

the forecast for orlando is always rain and thunderstorms in the summer...
usually it's for an hour or two in the afternoon, but as Wayne said, it can be more...
but that's orlando...

The forecasts are rarely accurate and storms can be very localised. Even on days when significant rainfall is recorded, you might miss it altogether. The flip side, of course, is that you might get unlucky. The weather in Orlando is as unpredictable as it is here, but statistically the start of June isn't as humid and wet as later in the month. In my experience, the supposedly characteristic "short sharp storm on the hour, every hour" is a myth, or at the very least, a thing of the past. Yes, you do get some days like that, but we've also experienced 3 solid days of rain, and two weeks where storms set in at 5pm every evening and didn't clear until the early hours.

Thanks for your replies. Just hope the weather doesn't stop us from going to the water parks. At moment that's the thing the girls are most excited about!

rain "usually" starts early afternoon ( well, usually, lol )
water parks close at 5pm
good spots at water parks fill up quickly

all in all, if you go at park opening there is a fairly good chance that you'll get to enjoy water parks
check forecasts the night before on TV

We are there usually moist of July for the last 7 years. The forecast like others say , is rain and thunderstorms, and like pp said they can be localised, and not effect where you are. if it does can be anything from 10 15 mins till all evening[rarely]. we where at SW one day, and was beautiful, we drove back to RPR about 10 to 15 min drive, and it was like a hurricane had passed through it, bits of trees everywhere, and rain had just stopped, so can be very localised

Good choice of words there, excellent typo :thumbsup2

We've been caught in a few storms in our times out there too - if you're in a park and rain is forecast, just hit any attractions when you get there that would be closed because of the weather - the mountains etc etc. the rain empties the park out and if it is a quick shower you'll have a couple of hours after of quiet streets and walk-on attractions :cool1:

1st of June is the start of the hurricane season(ends 30th November),over the years we have been at end of may start of June several times, and have always noticed the difference in the 2 weeks.the heat and humidity start to kick in in June, but not as bad as July/August
The daily downpours are due to the warm air from the Gulf hitting the cold air from the Atlantic
earliest huricane to hit Florida was Alma in 1970 may17th-26th,Latest but not to sure it came to Florida was Alice in December 1954/January 1955
Tropical storms have formed in every month of the year apart from January
Have always found the weather interesting, recall sitting round the quit pool at Beach club vilas when there was around 30,000 lightning strikes in an hour. Was better than watching the fireworks

We watched the fireworks from the Poly beach last year and DH was more interested in the Lightening storm going on over by the contemporary.

Yes is sucks to have rain while you are there but the big difference is that over there its warm. I have seen it pouring down and gone on a ride like space ship earth and by the time I have come off the ride you would not even notice it had been raining.

Ponchos are available in all the stores and most of the stalls. Grab one and keep on going. Like other pps have said most of the parks clear out when the rain comes on.

All the local stations on your room TV will have weather updates at regular intervals we normally on trust up to maybe 1-2 days ahead. Even then those are not 100%

You sound like you are doing like we do every time we go and keep looking at the forcast. i would say dont but we still do lol.
we go noramly in September and in 2010 we went on the 28th and the past month was very wet but when we landed it was dry and the sun was lush!

still was perdicting rain but we didn't se a drop :)

in one of our past holidays 2008 it come down realy hard about 6pm and one road out side our room was about 10inc deep with rain so we went back to the room and i come down for a *** and the rain had stoped and the road was dry again. even if it rains on a few days Disney has loads to do just go to a park and come back to a watter park again another day.

TIP: The drivers of the bus to the water park get a heads up on the whether ask them and they will advice you. Dont know if this info is from the Disney whether station of out side info but likely to be Disney as you can be stood at the entrance to Epcot in the sun and people in the showcase could be swimming :rotfl:

It seems to me that the old days of having regular afternoon downpours that you could set your watch by are over.
The last two times, both in August, we have had at least a couple of days of total cloud with occasional heavy rain.....but the other days have made up for it! :cool1:

Going again in late July/early August this year and definitely NOT expecting wall to wall sunshine but would prefer just the odd evening showers (or rather Torrential Downpours) than the totally cloudy rainy days. Then again these become the "shopping days" which keeps the DW and DD happy....while I sit in a nice dry bar.

Ahh the good ol' days... 3pm downpour, empties the parks out nicely. Disney's weather control machine must have been permanently broken a couple of years back :sad2:
