I posted a thread on the community board regarding this and then I realized that I probably would have been better off posting it here. I was just looking for input on the plan and was interested in possibly hearing from anyone who has used it and how well it worked out for them.

Anyway, the original thread is here:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=844267
and I'm interested in any and all feedback regarding the plan. I have read the website and understand how it works.

Thanks!

My parents did this for my DD when she was born. I work at a high school and this plan is great and is WONDERFUL when combined with the Florida Bright Futures scholarship. So far, I haven't figured out any cons unless for some reason they discontinue the plan. I do know that a friend of mine's DD goes to Flagler- which is private. She has the 75% FBF + the FPP. She still pays tuition but it is nothing compared to what the actual cost to go there really is.
I am sure you do realize that the younger the child is, the less expensive it will be since tuition increases every year since your child was born. Also, if for some reason your child does not go to college, it is transferable.
We get a quarterly magazine telling of changes, new additions you can purchase, and other information.

we have the fla prepaid for both our kids for tution. we paid the lump sum when they both were at the infant rate. from what I understand it will pay their 4 years of a fla school at the current rate. Im told you can transfer the plan to another sibling also. Im also hoping the bright future program through the lottery is still running great when my kids graduate. alot of people I work with have kids that have full scholarships thru this and can even go to private colleges like U of Miami. we will see. the only thing I didnt do is the room and board. Im just not sure where they will want to go and if they will live on campus or off. guess time will tell. they have a great website that you can take a look at. there are only certain times of the year that you can enroll though..

Wow! We are moving to FL in about a month and had no idea about these programs!!! Thanks so much DISers! We will be enrolling in Prepaid and aiming for a Bright Futures scholarship for DD7. Awesome! :cool1:

Where in Sarasota are you moving? How old are your kids? I can give you the scoop on a GREAT elementary school(it's a magnet school so it's public and free but works like a private school) and a Good middle school.

We have the prepaid tuition and the 529 plan offered by the state. It's great. Just don't have to worry about their college, hopefully, when they get older! If you can't pay lump sum you can do the 5 year plan or the 18 year plan. It's worth it because who knows how much college is going to be when the kids are ready to go. Lump sum for last year for DD 2 was around 9000. HTH!

We are doing this for our DD. We signed up for the tuition plan with 5 year payments (it's actually only 54 months instead of 60). Her tuition will be paid for by the time she starts kindergarten. We plan to continue putting the same amount of money away for her (we may do the 529 plan for this or we may just put the $ in cd's at the bank). We don't really want to do the room/board version portion because we don't know if she will live on campus or not, but we may do the fees portion when we have paid off the tuition part. There will always be fees unfortunately. We are very happy with this plan so far. HTH

I have my DD enrolled also. I did the 2 year community college and paid the Local Fees (whatever those are). If I had started earlier...I would have been able to get the 4 year plan but when I enrolled, I just couldn't afford the monthly payment that would have required. :guilty:

Here's the website.
