An extra four days need not incur any additional ticket charges or car hire depending on what options you have chosen. I agree food / spends and accommodation are extra though like I said above
I also think it depends on the number in your party and when you travel - if you go in school holidays the price of the flights is so much higher! The more the flights cost, relatively the less (as a percentage of the total holiday cost) the extra days cost you.
Say my family of 4 cost me £2500 in (economy) flights and the extra four days cost £500. That's only an additional 20% on top of my flights. If my flights only cost me say £1250 in non school holiday times, then the £500 would be 40% extra which I agree would be bumping the price up in relative terms.
