Has anyone gotten so wrapped up in planning their Disney/Orlando vacation that they wondered what it would be like to move to FL? I'm sure the novelty would wear off quickly, but just wondered. You plan for a year or more and sort of get swept up! :bounce: :bounce:

We've wanted to move to FL for a while, even before I became a Disney-holic. Weather and cost of living were our incentives. Now that I'm Disney-obsessed, I'd really love to move. Hopefully DH and I will find jobs out there someday!

At times I sure wish I lived there, especially after the cold Chicago winters.
I always wonder though if by living in Florida does the "magic" of going to WDW diminish.

Being from IL. its a major event for our family to plan a trip to WDW. Months in saving and planning, the fun of flying, the excitement of being in another, warmer, state, staying in a great hotel etc.

If I could just get in my car and be at WDW in less than 2 hours-would we be just as excited?

Would be like when our family goes to Six Flags here in IL-yes its fun for a day but its no big deal to us.

But if someone offered me or my dh a great paying job there, I sure wouldnt pass it up!

Just my thoughts,

I did just that and I love it here in FL. I live about 15 mins from the parks. I just got back from a morning at Epcot for opening day of Flower and Garden festival. The thrill hasn't worn off yet.

Nope, I'm a California girl;)

Well I have been going to WDW for 33 years now and nope, The Novelty hasn't worn off. I'm more of a fan now then ever, because I have more money and can visit more often but not every year, about three to four times a year.

DH and I plan on moving to FL within the next few years. We have been thinking about it for some time and weighing the pros and cons. I have lived in OH my whole life and he moved here from VA over 5 years ago. Neither of us can stand the cold and snow. We want to go somewhere warm. Much of his family lives in FL, so it makes sense for us to give it a try. We saw somewhere that an estimated 250 people move from OH to FL each day. He is in school right now, but we will be moving once he graduates. He is majoring in marketing and would like to work for Disney as an Imagineer. We would move there whether we were Disney fans or not, but being close to WDW is definitely a huge bonus!

Since our first trip to Key West in the early '90's, I have been scheming to get DH to move to FL!!:teeth: I've finally convinced him that we want to move there, but, we still have to wait 'til our teenaged kids are settled (college, jobs, homes, etc.) before we can leave. Also, DH has a business that we would have to sell.

We fell in love with FL long before I became Disney-obsessed, I think that contributed to my WDW illness, not the other way around. As soon as we can accomplish all the aforementioned goals, we'll be FL residents, baby!!;)

Nope not me. Wisconsin summers are hot & humid enough for me...I wouldn't want to deal with it longer then 3 months. Yes Wisconsin has nasty hot summers.

Plus I wouldn't want to deal w/hurricanes...tornados are bad enough.

And I think the Disney would wear off...as someone said earlier Six Flags is no big thing up here...it's 45 minutes from me...I can go there whenever I want.

Nope. I used to live in Florida and you couldn't pay me enough to move back. If it wasn't for Disney World, I'd never go back even for a visit.

So interesting! So a lot of people that don't live in FL want to live there and someone that has lived there wouldn't go back? Other than the hurricanes, what are the negatives of living in Central FL? Humidity?

No, I would not want to live there. As a pp said, the weather gets hot and humid enough where I live (Maryland! LOL!) I'd get sick of that Florida weather after one summer. Plus, I enjoy having all 4 seasons. I can't imagine not seeing the leaves change in the fall (my favorite season of all!) And I like getting snow in the winter, especially for my kids! :)

I don't want to live near WDW either. I like that it is "far" away, adds to the magic!!!! :)

YES!!!! I would live there in a heartbeat! :bounce:

If only I could find a job that pays like the one I have now...:scratchin

I would be so there. As a matter of fact, I'm currently selling my house, and once that's over I really could do it. And just might.:scratchin

We moved here from IL just over a year ago...and we love it! Maybe last summer was mild, but it wasn't much worse than summer in IL. It's true that there is no real fall...but the lack of snow and real "windchill" makes up for it!
We have been to Disney many times since we moved here...and the thrill hasn't worn off yet. It is still exciting to go past that first Mickey, the power line Mickey off I-4.
We love it here.

Central Florida Dislikes How about:

Mainly service related low paying jobs. Orl really needs to diversify thier business.
Traffic, Congestion & Urban sprawl. I4 is a constant parking lot.
Water shortages

You come to the other side and dislike the tourist on the road who dont know where they are going. Some are accidents waiting to happen. We do love tourist as they are our main industry though.
Last but not least all the new residents who complain about the weather and lack of seasons. Please spend the summer down here before you move permanantly.

Hey we do get Fla res rates. The trick is to live just far enough away where you have to spend the night at a Disney resort. Yet close enough for a short day drive.
