Florida mornings...?

Now that we have survived the recent northern MN storms and unprecedented flooding in our area, the weather has gotten to be pleasant, fairly typical Minnesota summer. As we were leaving the house this morning, both DH and I were thinking, "it feels like a Disney morning!" Now, let me explain that our WDW trips are usually in January and sometimes on the cool side but we've had many beautiful days that started out pleasantly cool and progressed to pleasantly warm, by Minnesota standards. But it's a long time between Januarys and I can't help but wonder...would we be totally disillusioned by a mid-summer Disney trip? I suppose we would...we went once in October and it was "too hot" for us. But I can't help miss our WDW "home" this time of year, just the same. Tell me, you folks from the more northerly parts of the country, would we ever be able to stand a summer WDW trip? I hate to say it, but I'm afraid that April and October will be the 'warmest' months that we will ever dare venture south! Sometimes it sure would be nice to take a short trip in between times, though...!Ah well...

July to August at WDW, the highs for the days are usually in the 90s. People might think, oh, we have had 90s in the north and I can easily withstand that. The difference is this: it is in the 90s at WDW by 9:30 in the morning and stays that way until sunset; the nightly to morning temperatures do not dive like they do in the north but instead stay in the mid-70s to low 80s, with very high humidity. You can sweat standing still outside at midnight and at 8 in the morning you will already feel it is hot and sticky. April and October are extremely pleasant in comparison because of lower humidity and pleasant mornings and evenings. Go in mid-July and you will think that October trip was mid-winter. That does not necessarily mean you should not go but do not do so on the assumption that it is not much worse than October.

If you have been in October and it was too hot for you then you definitely don't want to be there in July/August. The difference in humidity is phenomenal. I love the heat but find it hard to cope with the humidity in the height of summer.

Here in the UK we don't typically get a lot of hot days so we aren't overly used to the heat but the humidity in August is so wearing. I am always far more tired in the summer when we visit than in April/October.

We go for a week three times a year because I don't want to wait a whole year to go home to OKW. We like a week in Dec. because it gets dark in Massachusetts at around 4:30pm and Orlando's sunset is an hour or two later. Its also fun to be there just before Christmas. We go again in late Jan. because we want to get away from the cold and snow. The third time we go is March, April or early May for the Epcot flower and garden festival.

Hey Mom B - As a fellow Minnesotan with family in Two Harbors and Bemidji that I visit often, I can tell you that Florida is NO PLACE FOR A MINNESOTAN DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. IMO, it is unbearably hot and humid.

Seriously, summer is the time to truly enjoy Duluth / Northern Minnesota and all it has to offer. Hope the horrible flooding didn't impact you and that those it did recover swiftly. I hear that the tourist areas are all OK and want us to come. :)

Well, we sometimes have to travel in mid to late August. We are out very early and back at the resort for lunch. Then we go out again in the evening. We stay for a week so we don't feel the need to rush. We use fast passes and get there when the park opens. It really doesn't bother us. I hate the cold weather (and living in PA I can't avoid it). And, I'd rather have my daughter and her husband join us in August (they are teachers) and deal with the heat than have them unable to come. :)

We have been 3 times August over the past 15 years, and I always say never again, but it convenient time for us.

We usually go to parks in morning have any early lunch and then go back to the resort to relax and have a swim and then dinner and back to parks when it dark and cooler....

Planning on going in June next summer, I know it will be hot, but its not August!!:)

We became Fl. Residents July 26, 1986 and N.J. became Back North, Not Back Home. Even after all these years living in S.W. Fl. I can honestly say that we have a very good reason to be in possession of Seasonal Passes.

Too dang HOT in June, July and August to enjoy WDW!

So we leave it to the Northerners to fill the place up.

I live on long island and we get the humidity also. Heck for the past couple of days its been in the 90's with a ton of humidity. Here in my condo development with all the trees and flowers it even smells like disney. Add a trip to doorway to dreams and the onlything missing is the park.

It helps the visits to disney in the summer when your already used to the heat and humidity.

I live in Florida, and we NEVER go to WDW in July and August! The temperature may say 90, but with the humidity, it feels more like 105. You can be outside, and get stinky within 5 minutes!!

The old saying goes--you can tell who the Florida residents are--the ones without the tans! :rotfl:

As a Floridian abd the parent of a 15 year old, we follow the school shedule and always book 2 stays in Summer. 1st or 2nd week of June, weather is still quite tolerable and then 3 or 4 days in early August before school starts!

August stay, waterparks and outlet mall only! Boy it's brutal but I still prefer it to the crowds during Spring break (no can do, I don't have the patience) By the same token, I've been in NY & TN in July when it was actually hotter than Florida, go figure!

"The old saying goes--you can tell who the Florida residents are--the ones without the tans!" Love it, that's a new one for me!

Thanks, everyone, for the insights. I see now that I definitely have to strengthen my resolve to never set foot in Florida between the end of April and early to mid October. I know we would totally melt during the warmer months. After 2 days of 90 degree, high humidity weather here at home, DH was having a serious meltdown. We even cut short our 4th of July vacation at our cabin and headed for home and A/C before the fireworks!

CarolMN, thanks for the good wishes. Our relatives who came up from "The Cities" said it was much worse down there than at our cabin (east of McGregor). So I can definitely sympathize and hope you're staying cool. Yes, Duluth is recovering nicely from our unexpected rainy season and most places are back to "business as usual," I think. So come on up and enjoy our 'natural air conditioned city' by Lake Superior! Better now than in January, that's for sure! :thumbsup2

We leave in 12 days for our 4 summer Disney Trip. We were typically Oct/Nov/Feb/May Disney vacationers. When our oldest started middle school, that ended. Our kids attend a very rigous college prep charter school and missing a few days is like missing a few weeks. So summer was our only option. We have done the first, second and third week of August and will be doing the third week of July for this upcoming trip. Its hot and sunny, it rains every day. We go with much lower expectations of what we can accomplish each day, we spend tons of times in the pools, visit all the other DVC and reg. hotel pools(what ever is closest to to the park we are visiting), hit the water parks more. We freeze water everynight, take lots of breaks and have an awesome time. Its actually hotter in Michigan right now then in Disneyworld. So this year we will be use to it!
