Florida living overrated?

In 4 years of college..I went to 2 football games and sold the rest of my tickets. Discovered I don't like standing on bleachers with a bunch of drunk college students to see a game. And when you watch in on tv--they've got instant replay and cool graphics and air conditioning and for the over 21-crowd ;) ;), beers in the fridge.

People liked me for my FSU tickets. I sold for a decent price ;).

Bah, how dare you. :rotfl2: I don't think I missed one home game and I even traveled up to Tennessee once. :scared1:

You guys would be SO jealous of my tiki-man mailbox with the Florida Gators symbol carved into it's head :rotfl: It took us like a month after we bought the house to figure out what the alligator carved into the tiki stood for, LOL!

Yep jealous. Unfortunately my HOA would frown on it. :(

I graduated with a BS in Public Relations (a BS in BS as I like to say). What about you other Gators?

Same college Miss J--I'm Telecommunications....good ol' College of Journalism!!!

Freaky---what years were you there?

well i just have to defend my fave place in the world. We are from the chicago area and going broke paying hiiiiigh rent for a "luxury" apartment. when we see the prices over there they are sooo much more pleasing to the eye. Based on where we are from of course!! NEXT we are possibly getting transferred to Orlando and he gets to keep his very good salary plus a raise and PLUS a moving bonus. AND the best part of it all is that we already have EXCELLENT benefits that go with us. Many people get transferred there so they pretty much get to keep their pay. My kids would be in a catholic school here and will do the same there, so that takes care of school districts. I just have to say i LOVE FLORIDA!

91-95. How about you? I can't believe it's been 10 years (in December) since I graduated. :earseek:

Woo hoo J-School!

See, that's why I just can't bring myself to move to a neighborhood with a HOA here. If I want to have a Gator tiki-man mailbox or a ninja turtle mailbox, or even the oh-so-popular dolphin or manatee mailbox, then I'm going to have one darn it :rotfl:

Can't help but wonder, if the people in Florida are "Crackers", and I've heard the people in Wisconsin are "Cheeseheads", would that make us Bostonians "Beanheads"? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

(Just thought I'd try to lighten this thread up a little, sorry!)

I've got an HOA and I've got a "flying pig" on my mailbox. The mail lady loved it.

I'm a Gator, too! We attended all the football games with our "cheap" student tickets! My husband and I just graduated in 2004. Me with a Masters in Elementary Education and DH with Doctorate in Pharmacy. We had our mid-life crises together ;) .

The whole time we were at UF, we debated where to live when we graduated. Schools for DS were a priority. A place with rolling hills, a great climate, financial opportunities, and affordable homes were also included in our priorities.

We researched and visited states all over the eastern part of the US. DH is from Cleveland and I'm originally from West Virginia (lived in South Carolina too). Ohio, WVa and SC are beautiful, and we still have family in each that love where they live! When all was said and done, (and having previously lived in Port St. Lucie, FL for 15 years) we realized that we LOVED the North Florida-Gainesville area! It has everything we could ever want for our family. My 11 y.o. DS went to a top-notch elementary school here and his upcoming middle school is of the same caliber. We swim and golf year-round. We have a change of seasons, and our neighbors are good people. Disney is 1 1/2 hours away, and we have beaches to the east and west of us. Our university town may not be the biggest, but we have museums and entertainment that are incredible. We can live anywhere, but Florida is where we choose to make our home. Of course not everyone is going to want to live in Florida--(thank goodness!). There are good and bad things about each city and state. I do not understand the need to put people down because of where they choose to live. To the OP, life is short. I hope that your life is not being spent in such a miserable condition that you feel the need to spread misery to others! I wish you much happiness and contentment from someone who does enjoy living in the beautiful state of Florida!

Go Gators !

I wonder if you got it from the same place where my neighbor just bought her "swimming dolphin" mailbox :rotfl2: Too funny!

We had a stained glass Gator window made for by our front door....Lisa I was there 92-97 - I know more than 4 years!

Finance here....:)
I am debating doing the online UF MBA program...but maybe not for another year. I love and miss Gainesville...can't wait till the home opener. We are huge football fans though. Have to take the new baby! We taken Samantha each year since 2002 (when she was born) and taken her picture next to the big Gator in front of the F club - it is so cool to see her grown next to the Gator~~

That is cool lillygator!

I want to go back--but I feel soooo oooolllldddd!!!

That reminds me--must get cable so I can see ALL gator games!

I am not miserable

I do not dislike people who enjoy living in Florida

I do not hate people having a different opinion than me

I am just looking to exchange ideas with people on this message board like everyone else!

(SO IF YOU LIKE LIVING IN FLORIDA, GOOD FOR YOU)

I could be wrong, but your "ideas" sound more like insults from someone with a very condescending attitude..

But that's okay - Florida will still be there when you change your mind and decide it's not so awful afterall.. :flower:
