Florida License?

when moving to Florida from another state do you have to take the written test in order to get a new license?

I think, I know cause of Florida strict driving laws, Ohio had to addapt stronger laws, (we had some old person who ran down people cause he coudnt see, so we had to star taking an eye test again when renewed

My experience was the opposite - Florida has much less strict rules. In fact you can still use cell phones!!!

When I moved to FL from PA all I needed to do was go into the DMV and get a photo taken, no test of any kind, and looks like that’s still the case: https://www.dmvflorida.org/drivers-license/out-of-state-drivers

When I moved to FL from PA all I needed to do was go into the DMV and get a photo taken, no test of any kind. That was in 2001 though.

It's been 21 years, since we moved to Florida. At that time, we had to take the written & eye test, provide our Birth Certificate, Social Security card & a bill proving we lived here. We were both born in the US, so I'm not sure what the requirements are for non US citizens. We had to provide more info here than NC & VA required at that time. We had previously had licenses in both states. That said, that's was a long time ago, so things may have changed some.

How odd! I moved 17 years ago and required nothing to switch! The change must have happened between you and me.

It sounds like it. It's definitely been easy for us to renew our license in Florida, after we initially got one. DS got his first license, which was in Florida 9 years ago. I know he had to provide those things, because he needed to get those documents from me. The requirements for those who already had a license in the US obviously changed, since DH & I first got ours.

My folks just got FL license s last month, only thing they had to do was hand over their MD license and get a new photo taken. They said it was super quick and easy.

I did read that the license from the state that you are coming from needs to be surrendered at DMV. Makes sense.

Maybe it's because most of those states (outside of Mass), there's nothing to hit except for the occasional moose?
