Well not even a month out of Charlie, we are preparing for yet another. This one is going to be a big one, possibly hitting Central Fl as a Cat 4. Charley was only a low 2. Many JUST got power back, and now we are looking at another storm. Please everyone, send the state of Florida some major prayers and pixie dust, as the next few days are going to be rough...

From this map it is coming right for me.:(

Charley was a 4 when it hit Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte and weakened inland, as hurricanes tend to do.

But Frances is a much larger storm, as far as the diameter of her wind field. If something doesn't change drastically today, most of the Florida peninsula is in for rough weather this weekend.

Hope everyone is paying attention, starting their preparations now and will heed the warnings of their local officials. It's been to be safe than sorry!

I have been following this storm and praying every day that it turns out to sea, but I am afraid that is not to be. I just pray that everyone stays safe and that the damage is minimal, but again I am afraid that may not be the case. Continued prayers for all in the path of Frances.

Keeping everyone in Florida in my thoughts and prayers. I've got friends down there and it looks like Frances is headed right for them. Our thoughts, prayers and worries remain with all of Florida.

It won't be a 4 when (if) it hits inland. Charley was an amazing abberation as it was but it was hauling butt, Frances is not going nearly as fast and will probably slow down...

Everyone should be worried though and I propose that all Floridians go to the beach and with all of their might blow at the ocean thus producing a groundswell of offshore wind that will push Frances safely offshore...Come on, PUCKER UP!

Frances is a major storm that is going to do some damage when it hits. We are keeping our eye on this storm and praying for a change of path out to sea.

I hope that everyone is getting prepared. Just like with Charley you never know where it is going to hit until it hits.

I am on the west coast of Florida and we are getting ready. Not going to take any chances.

No, it will lose a big punch once it hits land, but the wind field on this thing is enormous!

:(

I think it will be a 5 when it hits. It has plenty of time to strengthen. I hope it stays lower than a 4, because 5 is catastrophic. Pixie Dust to all fellow floridians! Stay Safe!

What site is the first map on this thread from? It shows the impact site to be even lower in Florida than the one I saw on the news this morning.

I am trying desperately to get a hotel room that accepts pets on the west coast of Florida but am having no luck so far. I have a travel agent working on it for me now. This one is scaring the daylights out of me. Having lived in Florida for 33 years I don't scare easily with hurricanes but this one has me spooked.

lvseeyore, the site is www.flhurricane.com

It has a ton of information and a great message board with many competent amatuers and a even a few professional meteoroglists that post their comments and forecasts.

The site gets a great deal of traffic during times like this, and it's sometimes hard to get on. But I find it invaluable!

Good luck with the motel search. Have you looked at your local emergency preparedness site? Some of them have links with the names of pet-friendly hotels.

It's looking really bad. :( This hurricane is enormous.

Have you asked if they would make an exception due to the unusual circumstances?

And I'll probably get flamed for this - but - anyway you could "sneak" them in? Normally I wouldn't advocate something like that, but this is a MAJOR exception!

Do you have carriers for them? If so, maybe the hotels would allow them under those circumstances..

I'm praying for all of you - as well as my family and friends down there in Florida and other areas that may be hit..

Go Away Frances!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable.... We don't even have windows in the kid's bedrooms, garage or livingroom yet. Oh well. At least we have a roof,no soffit but a roof. I feel awful for all my fellow neighbors that only have tarps. A word of advice please please please be prepared. Have at least 30-50 gallons of water, ice, food, candles, batteries, radio,BUG SPRAY,paper plates, cups, plastic silverware, prescriptions, petfood, hand can opener,MATCHES,baby stuff. If you have a well remember if you lose power you lose water. Most toilets use 1.5 to 3gal. of water to flush. We did not have power for 10 days after Charley, needless to say we were catching rain water to flush lol. If you have a generator run it outside. And if you live in a MOBLIE HOME evacuate!!!!!!!!!! Good luck and Godbless!

Hootiss: I am sorry to hear about your house. But very glad to hear that you and your family made it thru the storm safe.

Thanks for the tips on things to have. I think people take these storms for granted.
