Florida fires?

Every year we go to florida fires sprout up. what is the situation now for an i-95 route to florida. hopefully we'll be lucky this year, every year before it has felt like we have brought the flames or something, last year you guys haden't had a fire until the day we arrived.

I haven't heard anything about florida fires this year. Usually they start in May. Maybe we'll luck out this year and have none.

Just got back June 5, no fires while we were there! Maybe they won't happen this year!

We have had a few brush fires, but not like past years, so far. And since we are now entering the rainy season, hopefully it will stay that way.

I subscribe to a news letter that details the fires and major incidents that occur across the US.

As of 6/10/02, there was only one area of major concern in Florida. It was an area of about 168 acres in the Osceola Forest area with 9 small fires that were still smoldering and under observation and treatment. It was in an area of southern rough and not near cities and homes.

The area is near Olustee, Florida which is near Lake City, Fl where I-10 and I-75 come together. The fires are estimated to be 84% under control.

There is another large fire near the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge near Fargo, GA. It is north of the Florida border and east of Valdosta, Ga.

It was caused by lightning and is being battled by a joint force of Florida and Georgia fire teams. Precipitation and high relative humidity have limited fire spread. A preexisting permanent fuel break that surrounds the Refuge is being successfully utilized to hold the fire. Personnel are monitoring and improving the fireline.
