I am soon arriving in Miami for my 3 week holiday in Orlando.

We will arrive late in Miami so we will stay one night at the airport hotel.

Next morning around 0800 we will drive up to Orlando for checkin around 1600.

Any suggestions on a scenic route?

Any suggestions for short stops, for example where to eat lunch?

Scenic Route?? Miami?? Is there such a thing?? :rotfl:

Maybe A1A north to Sr 192 to WDW, but that will probably take you about 2 days due to all of the traffic.

I-95 --> Florida's Turnpike --> I-4 west to WDW is probably the best route, but it will still take a few hours.

Not that route, done that, nothing interesting to see.

I wouldn't be trying for a scenic route this time of year. All of the "snowbirds" are here and the roads are crowded.

Your best bet is to take Florida's Turnpike north. If you're staying on Disney property, take the exit for the Osceola Parkway. It should take you about 4 hours to get there from Miami.

What is "snowbirds" ?

I know how long it takes to drive from Miami to Orlando. But we can't check in until 1600 so we have 8 hours to spend, no we are not going to wait until 1200 leaving Miami ;-)

Tommy, snowbirds are people who live in Florida only half the time and they fly down south to escape the winters up north.

As far as not checking in until 4pm, you can check in anytime. It just means your room might not be ready until 4pm, but more often than not, your room will be ready even if you check-in before 4pm.

We are not staying at a Disney resort.

That is the point. There is nothing TO see, really. :)

Scenic? How about taking the Tamiami Trail from Miani to Tampa, then I4 to Orlando? Believe me, once you get to Tampa, you will want I4, if it isn't gridlocked.

Or, take US27 North from Miami all the way to I4, 192 or 50, depending on where you are going in Central Florida.

How long are you looking to spend on the road? The "scenic routes" are LONG and slow.

LOL, well we don't want to spend the time in traffic jams or something like that.

Our thought was going up on the west coast maybe stop in Fort Myers?

Still doesn't matter where you stay. You can check-in before 4pm. If your room isn't ready, then just keep your luggage in the trunk and go play, then come back to a ready room.
