Hello helpful DISers :)

Question for you...I'm not a huge flower kind of girl. I mean, I will have flowers and all, but I was curious what other people have done to decorate but avoid it all being floral. (I loved the paper lanterns sambycat used, for example.)

Does anyone have photos of the decor they used if they were looking for alternatives to using tons of floral? I definitely want decor so the GF ballroom doesn't feel like a meeting space :rotfl: but it seems like floral is always the default thing to do.

Thanks in advance.

Haven't had my wedding yet, but you could do these sorts of things:

- floating candles, submerged orchids or other blooms with rocks or stones at the bottom
- candles with rose petals (very romantic!)
- a centerpiece that is of something like a bird house, lantern with a candle, etc.!

the lanterns we did were so wonderful - i would have added more if i had known how great they were! actually we got quite a few for what we paid (which i can no longer recall off hand...). of course, we did the bottles/tea trays centerpieces with the whole "mad hatter" theme.

but lanterns (clored or maybe all white ones or all one colored?) hanging and then the same color story for glass vases/bottles with colored water, maybe floating lights or something?

I made my own with fake flowers from Michael's. We haven't had our event yet but here they are on my table:

The whole setup is around $7 per table.

You could do feathers or branches in a tall vase. They give a lot of height and volume. At our planning session they had pictures of different centerpieces they had done with each of these.

Do you have a theme?
Topiaries are a beautiful alternative. You could have them lit if it's in the evening or made of fruit for morning or afternoon.

I made lighted white birch branches with "crystal" snowflakes dangling for a winter black tie.
Birdhouses were my shower centerpiece. If you would like to see a photo just let me know.
