Flooded POTC boats

Is it just the front getting wet? I sat in like, the second to last row and was fine. Only thing that stunk was I got in the boat the wrong way and hit my shin so hard. It's still sore almost a week later! But that was own stupidity on that.
My parents just texted me. They are at WDW and rode Pirates earlier today. She told me that they got absolutely soaked - more than they ever experienced on Splash Mountain - and that they were still wet 2 hours later. She said that they were riding in the front, but that the people behind them also got pretty wet.

I'm very much surprised that it isn't scheduled to be closed in low season and fix this problem.

No, if you look through the thread there have been many people reporting that they got wet to some degree and were not in the front row. I'm glad you didn't get wet (sorry about your shin), but plenty of people are getting way more water than they bargained for.

It was just closed for 4 months. That 4 months was not enough to fix all of the existing problems with the attraction. Imagineers wanted at least 6 months for fixes, management said no more than the 4-4.5 they got.

Why don't the boats for splash have standing water in them? Doesn't that say POTC was not meant to be a water ride. I've gotten wet on splash to the point of water dripping off my glasses, but I don't remember having to walk around in wet shoes.
I think we are crossing POTC off the list for Dec. Maybe in the spring when it's 85 outside. We decided to first go the exit at the gift shop to check out how wet people are before we venture into the ride.

I read the posts about everyone getting wet on Pirates recently. I rolled my eyes and said "yeah right".

Tuesday I rode Pirates (on the third day during my trip that I attempted to ride....both previous days we had attempted to ride, it was either closed before we got in line, or closed while we were in line). DH, DS and I sat in the second row, and we all got at least as wet on Pirates as we got on Splash. :scared1::scared1: The bottom of the boat had what appeared to be a small amount of water on it.....until we went around one of the curves and ALL the water in the boat splashed into the side of the boat where my feet were, and my feet got soaked.

And the boat had a definite tilt to the right by quite a bit. I looked around the boat to see if there were a bunch of large people packed on the right side of the boat, but there weren't, so I don't know what was going on with that.

I was NOT happy.

I won't be riding it even if everyone else I travel with does. I don't like water rides. Splash and Kali are permanately off my list too.

I totally want to wear flippers, a mask, and a snorkel when I get into line to show everyone else I'm prepared!
:sail:

Seriously, if someone showed up in the standby line wearing those items, it would generate lots of questions from fellow guests, and those guests would understand by the time the ride was over. And so would management.

I am most concerned with the slick ramp leaving the ride for my mom, I can't risk a fall

this concerns me too. Next time we go, MIL will be with us and she has arthritis and is not "quick" on her feet. I am scared she will fall and hurt herself.

Good point. I'm planning a trip with my mom next summer, but not THAT kind of trip! I have been thinking about scratching this from the list because it fit with our evening plans, but I don't want to be soaked at night. Now I'm definitely taking it off the list -- too bad, too, because it had been one my mom liked.

I just hate that people are going to start avoiding this ride. This is one of my favs and we missed it last summer due to the (non) refurbishment. I don't want to NOT ride it, but I also don't want to risk getting soaked and/or slipping on the wet floor.

I don't want to be over dramatic but this is the situation with my mom, no need to risk a fall, especially because I feel I have been warned

I've never even been on Kali, I'm not a fan of rides like this and have no interest in getting soaked. I did enjoy Splash, we didn't get too wet on that one. I'm going to wait and see how the situation is with Pirates by the time we visit the World again, because right now it does not sound appealing.
