My daughter (15) will be traveling to Disney on Thursday for a cheerleading competition. She is insisting on wearing flip flops (I know, it's crazy, but she wants to look 'cute'). Are flip flops allowed on the rides? Any input you could give me would be helpful. Thanks :cheer2:

I only wear flip flops while at the parks, it's not crazy of her to want to wear them. :) It hurts my feet, especially my arches, to wear anything but flip flops. Yes, flip flops are allowed on rides.

If flip flops are more comfortable for her, then I see nothing wrong with wearing them. Whatever's comfortable. :flower:

I have worn them and my kids have worn theirs too. No problems here.

Thanks for posting! I was getting to think if I didn't wear tennis shoes something might be wrong with me. I love flip flops, and tennis shoes make my feet sweat. I think I'll alternate, just because I'm still scared about all the blister stories. :sad2:

When I was 12 years old (in 1972), we went to visit relatives in So. CA. I bought some of those new flip flops with the 1" platform of different colored layers. They were the latest thing at the time. I think they cost $1.

Well the next day we went to Disneyland and my mother let me wear those flip flops. I had no other shoes with me. Before I could get to the park entrance I had a blister across the top of my foot. I was miserable the whole day. Everytime I would take the miserable things off, a CM would tell me I must keep my shoes on.

I am sure flip flops are more comfortable today, but I still have an unreasonable aversion to them and I am still angry at my mother for not advising me not to wear them. I don't believe you will have any problems wearing them on all rides.

Bottomline: let her wear them, but bring a back up.

I wore flip flops from our resort ( ASMusic) to the bus, to the MK and into Tony's and by the time I got to tony's I was thinking wow this was a bad idea.

You have to remember your walking 5-7 miles a day. You want something comfy.

Skechers makes some wonderfully cute and comfortable shoes. The flip flops specially if she is competing may be a bad idea. Perhaps around the resort but in the parks.. I wouldnt.

No one will be looking at her feet. Its all families and the cheerleaders no ones going to care.

Flip flops are fine, but make sure that they aren't new! Make sure that they have been broken in and comfy!
Have a great time! Hope her team does well! :cheer2:

I'm 35 and my mom is always telling me that flip flops are dangerous  ! I wear them always and yes, to Disney, many times. The bottom line is make sure your daughter wears something that will be very comfortable to her, not just "cute"! If flops do it for her then fine, otherwise comfort should come first. Hope she has a great time.

I wore filpflops on my last May trip(2004) I wore flipflops also wanting to be "cute" but..........They snapped in half!!!!!!! So i walked around barefoot ..Luckily this happened about 2 hours before closing time...but it was BAD!
Hope all goes well with cheer :cheer2: and flipflops*hehe*

I wear only flip flops from the first sign of spring til the last leaf falls! I hate shoes! I think she will be fine, as long as she's worn them before, so she knows if they will give her blisters.

Likes others have said, there is a lot of walking at WDW. There is also a lot of stroller and wheelchair traffic. I've had my feet stepped on a few times and thankfully I had running shoes on. I would get her to bring a second pair of walking shoes or running shoes to protect her feet if she gets uncomfortable.

I wore flip-flops at WDW for a whole week. Didn't have any problems except when they got wet, the rubber of the straps would rub my feet the wrong way. But I think I only did one or two water rides. I love flip-flops, and like another poster said running shoes make my feet hot and sweaty, yuck. Maybe get her some cute sporty flip flops which offer more support and comfort. Try The Finish Line, they have a website. I saw some Nike, Adidas and Teva flip flops for about $20. They offer more support than the flip flops you'd get at Old Navy of Gap or American Eagle. Good luck!

I had some of those, too. That type will always be "thongs" to me, though :teeth:.

I don't even wear flip flops around home because I find them uncomfortable. I used to warn people against wearing them at WDW. However, my 31 year old brother and his friend wore them last year and did fine. Some people just have tough feet I guess. It is a good idea to bring another kind of shoes just in case :).

Thank you for all of your input! I hate flip flops, but she swears they are the most comfortable shoes she has. She is packing a back up pair of tennis shoes just in case. I wish I was going with her, but we are planning a two week trip in July.

I agree Krista, I think they are adorable and wish I could wear them but they kill me, I can't even where them around the house either:sad2:

I wear flip flops all summer long. I have several pairs of really good flips or thongs, including some made by Clarks which offer very good support & cushioning. I wear those better types of flips to WDW all the time. I rarely wear running shoes/sneakers as they make my feet way to hot & uncomfortable.

If your daughter has a good pair of flips that she is used to & comfortable with, then that is what she should wear. Just because running shoes work well for some people doesn't mean they work for all, same with flips.

Good Luck to her Team! :cheer2:

I will also add to please tell her to break them in before she goes. Almost like with any pair of shoes/sandals/sneakers - sometimes they end up hurting or blistering the first few days. - back up is also a great idea.

Teva flip flops are cute and comfy...I wear them all the time in the parks, no problems.
