Hi. I plan on being in Orlando from May 13th to 27th and am sooo unhappy with what I'm seeing regarding flights from YHZ to MCO. They seem to be averaging $650 return and that seems to be alot of money to me. Am I still just too early to book a flight??

I'm now looking at not buying return tickets but rather buying each way separately. I found a great flight from New York La Guardia for $99 but can't seem to find a decent flight from YHZ to La Guardia.....any suggestions on who might have the best price for that.

I know people often drive to Maine or NH and fly out from there, in fact, I did that with my sister's family a few years back. I'm just not fussy about that drive on this trip as I would be the only driver and it would add a couple of days on either side. I actually live in Cape Breton so I have a 5-6 hr drive just to get to Halifax.

Am I panicing too soon???

Thanks!!!!

Hi Nicole, I'm not sure if I would book two different airlines. I've thought about it many times, but I always go back to the thought that if there is a delay on one flight, the second airline isn't going to help you out.

The best price I've used from Halifax is around $550, but I have been able to get $500 out of Charlottetown and I've seen it as low as $400 out of Halifax. Did you check out the flights out of the Maritimes thread? I'll get the link for you.

Here's the thread I mentioned. You can read what some others have been able to get and the people who post seem to know more about which prices are right for them. I am one of those that at most I will drive to Halifax, but I try not to now, I'd prefer to fly out as close to home as possible.

we've booked our departure and return flights separately -- in fact, that's what we did this time...I grabbed a $99 return flight on a seat sale before I had even worked out our departure date. It's no different than booking a return trip through expedia where they mix up the airlines.

But booking different legs of one flight separately...I don't know if I would do that unless I had no choice. I've been tempted to look up the cost of doing that before, but it seems that it's the flights out of Canada that are the expensive part of the trip, no matter where in the US you land. I don't think I would do it if I couldn't lock it all in at the same time.

The best fare seems to be $510 inc taxes into Tampa and then just drive across with Continental or US Airways.

I've often book my flights to and from separately mainly because I may prefer the times with another airline.

However, I have not booked a flight as you suggested ie. YHZ to NY and then another flight NY to MCO. I would think this would be more of a hassle than it's worth. I would assume that you would need to pick up your luggage from the first airline and check in again with the next airline. Since you booked two separate flights, they would not transfer your luggage. As mentioned as well, you run the risk of missing the second flight in case of weather delays etc.

I am in the same situation as you are...we are planning a trip mid-late April and I am finding the flight prices YHZ-MCO are high! I have flown from the US before but I am not finding the prices there are much better after I factor in the gas, hotel, and meals. Fingers crossed for some seat sales to come soon.

I checked yesterday and flights out of Manchester were considerably lower than YHZ ....probably a little over $1000 saving for me.

Thanks folks!! I never thought of the hassles of doing my trip down in two different legs, you all bring up some good points. Thanks!!!

I guess I will just try to be a bit more patient. I'm subscribed to every imaginable email for travel and Air Canada keep sending telling me they found cheap flight for me......in February!!!

I was hoping to get the tickets this week or next but the surprise break job on my car :headache: kinda put that plan on hold. Hopefully the prices will go down (not up) next month!!!!

Finally found a price from YHZ to MCO that I could live with.

United Airlines
leaving YHZ @ 9:00 AM Arriving at MCO @ 4:47 PM on May 13th;
leaving MCO @ 5:20 Arriving in YHZ @ 11:54 PM on May 27th.

I did not purchase round trip as it was cheaper to buy eqach way seperatly. YHX to MCO was $297 and MCO to YHZ was $248 for a total of $545. This was the price on the UAL website. If I booked it as... a return ticket the cost would have been $10 more....I figure I can use the $10 more than UAL or Expedia....LOL!!!!!

I ended up buying my tickets via TD Canada Trust Expedia website because today I could get 9 points for every $$ I spend instead of the usual 2 points..... plus 1000 points for each transaction. This should give me an additional $150 - $200 in TD Travel Points to apply to my trip.

I was also lucky enough to find a great deal on my rental car for the same time period via Expedia.....$280ish with unlimited miles for a full-size car.

Orlando here I come!!!!!
