Can anyone, who's been in October, tell me please when the best time is to book flights? We're hoping to go during Halloween next year and would like (if at all possible!) to get relatively cheap airline tickets. Any advice, experience, tips etc would be VERY welcome!

We are also going in October 2014! I started looking at prices in April of last year for the last two weeks in October 2013 to get a rough idea and then tracked prices until July. I found the best prices (with 1 stop) in mid-May with USAir and United. I flew USAir this summer to the west coast and really liked them. Hope this helps :)

Thank you very much. I spent literally hours looking for flights for the summer just gone and we still had to pay a ridiculous amount - over £1000 each for a direct flydrive from Manchester! I'm hoping it'll be less expensive in October. I'll look out for USAir.

We booked in January this year for October this year. We are doing connecting flights from Edinburgh via Newark and got them for just over £500 each.

This will be our 4th October in a row - last 2 weeks.

I aim for £500 each indirect from Manchester.

I usually book when flights are released in December the year before.

We've been with US Airways and are with American airlines this time.

I usually use kayak to keep an eye on prices.

If you can go midweek or for a slightly odd number of days you may fare even better (We were just over £1400 for 3 last year for 15 nights going out on a Monday - just over £500 this time but stuck with sat dates for work reasons)

Have booked from Glasgow with thomas cook for next oct got them for £433 inc luggage but no meals altho the price seems to fluctuate on a daily basis , watched it 10 times a day before committing lol

Dixonsontour - thank you so much - that's really helpful. I'll watch kayak like a hawk!!

sovietsong - thank you - I can't seem to book past Sept 2014 on the Thomas Cook site but I'll keep an eye on them too.
Edit: was looking at wrong site - found "Flythomascook" extends further into next year.

All this input is much appreciated! :worship:

We are off in 35 days :cool1: and we're also booked for the same time in October/November 2014. There are a bunch of reasons why we choose this time of year to go and one of them is that the 11 month window for booking flights coincides with the flight sales in December!

Our dates this year are 29th - 12th, we booked the Disney portion of the trip in May or June 2012 to get the free dining, 30% off and free $200 gift card and then booked our flights in December in the BA sale. Interestingly, we paid £2500 fly drive with premium economy flights and inclusive car hire with Avis and I have checked the price every couple of week since (I know this is potentially a stupid move!) and they have never fallen anywhere close to that low again.

The timing for it falls just right so my advice would be to hit the BA sale in December and get your flights then if you want direct. If you're willing to go indirect, use Kayak and check ebookers regularly.

Really useful information! Thanks for posting. We need to book flights for Oct/Nov 2014 and will hang fire until the BA sale.

I'm going 9th Oct next year and booked flights with flythomascook, from Manchester for £512 pp inc, meals, luggage and pre booked seats. They have some great prices just now but think you need to be back by 31st Oct as they don't seem to have any dates in Nov

MrRomance - thank you. My DH would much prefer to fly direct so I'll definitely be looking at the sales in December.

Scottish mum - thank you. Those prices are great so I'll keep a sharp eye out for when 1st Nov becomes available - DH is a teacher so we have to go during half-term.

We are booked hotel wise 30/11/14 and hv watched flights with VA and AA from august and VA were very similar to Indirect if m+m used. Lowest was£435 from 28/11-11/12 and still similar now. I have never booked flights more than 6 months out even for august. Just keep watching and checking. Good luck looking and booking
