Our flights changed and now we arrive in Orlando at 5:08am. We were suppose to arrive at 6:15am.

My plan was to make a grocery stop on the way to Cabana Bay. Is there a grocery store open at that hour?

I think the Wal-mart superstore on Turkey Lake Rd. that is just down from Universal is open 24 hours.

I agree, the walmart has a pretty good selection of grocery items, plus beer and wine. Most likely your best bet. I think there's a close Publix, but I don't think they open to 7am. Have a great trip!

Thanks! I'm not enjoying the return flight time either. 7am instead of 8am (didn't like that 8 am but the people picking us up at the airport preferred that time than the late at night time).

on your way from MCO you'll also have a walmart on John Young Parkway

Walmart Supercenter
Sand Lake Corners
8101 S John Young Pkwy

it's open 24/7 and it's just off sand lake

the one on turkey lake road is also open 24/7 but will probably require a bit more driving .

Turkey Lake Road Walmart is only a couple of minutes away from Universal, ideal for what you want.

As a local, I much prefer the WalMart on Turkey Lake. It is newer and cleaner and seems less sketchy than the John Young Walmart location and is really close to Cabana Bay. Yeah, it might add an extra mile and 3 more minutes onto your total drive but IMO it is definitely worth it.

I will see if the driver will take us to the one on Turkey Lake.

Which car service did you hire?

Some will take you to a store of your first choice

I haven't officially hired anyone but was in contact with Tony and I need to confirm with him.

Also still trying to find out if I can use my ipad mini (wi-fi only) to use Uber or Lyft to switch hotels and to get me back to the airport.

If you don't hear back from him within 24 hours, contact him again.

He is very prompt with staying in contact with people

It has happened to me before that he did not get my email
So I do know emails can find a home in cyber space...... Lol

I read that one person was able to use the iPad but don't know them personally so not sure it was a valid statement

On the dis there is a tech support forum
Maybe you could ask there about using the iPad mini

I did ask on the thread Everything you need to know about Uber and Lyft and someone said you need wi-fi for it to work. I figured I would need it at the pick up spot and at the drop off spot but do I need it during the drive? I also don't know if there are a lot of places that have free wi-fi.

I wish I could answer your question to help you with this situation

But with me posting here, it will bump your thread UO on the main page

Let's hope someone sees your question and can help

No smartphone here. I do have a cell phone for my work (which I can only claim 80% as an expense) but it doesn't even work in the US, only Canada.

I'm sure I am in the small percentage that don't have one. I'm sure there must be a few people from Australia or UK or somewhere that don't want to use their data plan while on vacation to US or WDW. Just have to find them and see if they have used Uber or Lyft.

you could go to walmart (i'm sure other stores in the states would be fine also) and buy the cheap (trac) phones to use while in orlando.
buy the minutes card and keep the phone for the next time you will be in the states and use it again.
some trac cards come loaded with some minutes and you can add minutes with the cards.

i found that gas stations had the better cheaper cards to use with this phones.

check out walmart on line and see what they have available.

maybe order it online before you leave on your trip?

minutes card on the walmart site:

Not really worth it, I only take a vacation once a year. I have the ipad mini so I can use the hotel wi-fi to check in with family or work.

I can take a taxi, but if my ipad will work for Uber or Lyft I could save some money.

I'm sure keisha sent me a link to use uber on an iPad........we don't take phones on vacation, we just don't need one and any bad news can wait till we get home, so don't need to be contacted........ but we were thinking at one point we may want to use them.

Will see if I can find it. But I'm sure it's doable.

Thanks, I will have my niece with me so she will need to talk or send messages to her mom. I have my own daycare (I hire a sub) so I need to check in every other day or so. Since buying the ipad I don't think I have purchased any pre-paid phone cards.

Oh that's ideal then..........

Yes we discovered Skype last year and spoke to our son back home regularly.........it was fantastic and so much better than the phone.
