Flight time advice going east to west

Thank you didn’t think about food situation. Girls and hubby are all very food and ice cream motivated!
Their memories will be long and selective. "Hey mom, remember that $10k cruise you took us on and we almost starved to death the first day?" :flower1: I'm still hearing about a failed chicken and wild rice InstantPot disaster from the pre-pandemic era. lol

I would not take the flight that connects in Chicago. I used to fly west to east and back again for 16 years. Stopping in Chicago was the worst.

I also had a lemon chicken go very wrong in the crockpot. It’s been several years and they still refer to it as pledge chicken 😂

I would fly out 2 days before the cruise and do the late flight because you're traveling west--it will help get you adjusted to that time zone vs getting up at 3am (midnight Vancouver time). The 2 days before gives you a buffer in case there are flight issues.

Thank you! It was because of one of your TR I decided we are not red eye people! Doing a 2pm flight that lands at 11:54pm instead on the way back

🤣 Glad I could be of service! I think DH and I alone could deal with a red eye if we have to, but with kids...no matter how old they are, you have to deal with the consequences...be it crankiness, nausea, etc. Ug. It's so funny because my youngest has some motion sickness in cars/planes but feels great on ships. (And my oldest needs Bonine on the ship and is generally ok on other types of transport.)

We flew into Vancouver the night before and chose the late flight. Because of delays, instead of arriving at 9pm, we arrived around 11pm. Thankfully, we had booked the Airport Fairmont through Disney, so we were able to walk to the hotel, check-in, and get in bed rather quickly. We did room service for breakfast the next morning before they came to pick up our luggage. We then walked down to take the Disney bus to the pier. It wasn't ideal, but it worked out.

Extra time is about the only friend you have when flying. Take the early flight, sleep on the plane a little. A delay on your early flight is manageable. A delay on the late flight could add much more stress.

We have done many combinations of time zone travel with young kids and even just same time zone flights leaving last vs. first flight, and the verdict is; there is no telling and no rhyme or reason with kids. Only thing that was consistent; parents will be exhausted. So factor that in more than anything! They will be ok. The other thing is that an earlier flight leaves more room for error (out-of-your-hands errors; like weather and mechanical and other transportation issues). Also, I will never forget our 6 am flight, and our kids were still going strong at 11pm that same day at Disney high on Mickey Bars and what not. We were toast of course.
