I'm just playing flight roulette for a sneaky trip in August! I know it's not going to be cheap but Just wondering how long I dare leave it before booking and risking them all getting booked up.
Anyone else done this?

Last year we got two weeks right at the end of August (into September actually) landing back the day before school started for £500 pp with American Airlines to Tampa.

I think we booked with about a month to go so mid July.

I've been looking for friends for Aug Florida flights. Best I have seen recently is about £570 indirect to Palm Beach or Ft Myers. Thats outbound 20/08 or later return ~ 01/09. Palm beach to WDW is about 160 miles or 2.5 hours drive. Not as convenient as Tampa, but much better than Miami.

Trouble is our dates are slap bang in the middle of the holidays!
Don't know how much longer I dare wait now. Doubt the prices will go down at all :-(

You could hang on for some Thomson bargains? I know they have been heavily reduced last minute but I don't know how much they'll reduce in school holidays! X

We go next summer flying with Thomson, and the same date flight for this year only has 2 seats showing left on it and has done for a while now. I think middle of summer holidays is a gamble, BUT if you are willing to go indirect or fly into another airport as pps have suggested, you might manage.

You don't say how many seats you need? - this should also be a factor. There are 6 of us next year so I wouldn't have hung on for that reason.

I only need 2 adults!
That's my gamble - do I book flights and do diy or do I wait and try to get a reduced package nearer the time. At the minute packages aren't any cheaper than diy and I don't know how long I dare leave it haha.

With two of you, you stand a much better chance imo.

Is going indirect an option for you? People on another board are quoting fares of less than £500 pp now for August this year with one or two stops and flying into another airport - mainly Fort Lauderdale. It wasn't an option for us as it's a long enough flight for us as it is, so I didn't fancy another 3.5 hour drive each way on top, but if it saves the pennies and it's something you don't mind doing....

Check out skyscanner - that's where they are quoting prices from. BA have some flights out of Gatwick (indirect) showing apparently.

Have you looked at flying from Dublin?
Two days ago, I booked flights from Dublin which connect with a Virgin flight from Gatwick to MCO. We fly on 19th July.
Even given that we needed to book flights from Manchester, it still worked out at least £250.00 cheaper than booking the same flight direct from Gatwick.
