Went into TC todays for flight only price 3 adults, 1 child and 1 infant, going on 23 July - 9 August £3227

Cannot believe the jump in price wonder if all airlines will be this expensive.

For goodness sake! Where are those flights from and which airline is it? Surely not Thomas Cook's own. A co-worker of mine picked up flights from Glasgow to Orlando with Thomas Cook about 6 weeks in advance - they just went in July - and paid £400 per person.

Yes these flights were from Thomas Cook, Glasgow, we flew with them this year July and paid just under £500 and we flew premium on the return journey.

That's outrageous! I have had plenty rants about the Scottish departures costing silluy prices. I know my VA flights this year added a good £400 onto the cost of the same flights from English airports. That's quite scary because TC is usually much cheaper.

Hopefully the prices will come down a good bit, will wait until later to book but thought it would be nice to have the flights booked just now and then we could start the planning of what resorts we can visit.

Are you willing to consider indirect? I see you have pictures of children in your signature which is often the deciding factor. With that said, however, we usually fly to Manchester first and then from there and my DD has handled it without any problems. If indirect is a good price, I will do it without hesitation - just leave a day earlier. I don't know if this would work for you though.

Im waiting on US Airways releasing their prices and then will make a decision. Dont fancy travelling down to Manchester.

Does that include seat for infant?
For this August I couldn't get much under £700-800 for a direct flight, reason I paid the bit extra for business class.
Its a little early yet to get a true idea of prices for next August until Virgin release in Sept but I expect similar prices.

wayneg we only paid £500 this year and that was flying premium on return with the same company. The price they have quoted includes infant £59 and they she sits on our lap.

From Northern Ireland we are stuck with very little choice, and have to pay a premium just to get to England, so upgrades are out of the questions.

We did get BA flights for about £400 each at the end of this year, which is not bad for us.

Did you return in July or August this year, never saw any flights so low returning in August. If you returned in July you can pick up flights a little lower.
If you booked a long way in advance you also might have picked up a lower price before the big hike but this summer most have had to pay £700+ for economy, £900+ for premium.
Always possible you picked up a price glitch either, it does happen I have had my fair share, 3 times in recent years.

Yes we returned on August 4, when they were advertised they advertised 2 flights with same codes but one with premium return for the same price. I booked it and then informed others who managed to book the same flight and the same price.

I didn't think about the July/August timing. Scottish schools close the last week of June. The flights from here do hike in price from the last Friday in June however - that's how it worked out going from Manchester when the English schools were still in session, even with flights to MAN and hotel overnight. This year the direct was actually cheaper than the total with the add ons. You have to sit with a calculator with this stuff.

Friends of mine are going in Sept this year with Virgin and are paying £800pp for Economy!! Scarily i did shop around for them and it was the best deal for direct

We're lucky that we live only about an hour or so from Gatwick (maybe 3 hours depending on the wonderful M25) and can still go outside of School holidays. However some of the flydrive prices i have been quoted so far this year were outrageous! Im just hoping when BA/Virgin announce their flights for Sept its not as bad as im dreading!

There is no way i can go indirect with an infant and 2 blissfully dopey grandparents - they managed to lose each other on the stairs on the Disney Magic no way am i going to attempt an indirect flight with them

You could do it if you had 3 sets of those toddler wrist reins. I am sure you would raise some eyebrows and generate some criticism, but at least you'd be stuck together.


Seriously, I totally understand the challenge of indirect with little ones. Oddly enough I did it plenty when DD was an infant - it was when she started getting older (about 3 or so) that it became difficult. And some destinations you cannot simply take a direct flight. Fortunately with Disney the option is there, although you pay for the privilege!

Original quote we got £3200 for 17 nights, just checked Tc website and can get 21 nights for £2700, no brainer this one, so will need to see if I can get the time off for 3 weeks.
